The addition now forms a comfortable and fully functional new social heart for the home.
The family's favorite Kandinsky (shown above) served as inspiration for the interiors.
The clients were looking to create a calm and comfortable space to retreat within, with moments of privacy and seclusion within the open plan.
The strategy was to arrange the spaces in and around three sculptural masonry walls, creating nooks and reveals within the open plan of the addition. With spaces that could offer a place to sit and engage with family, or to withdraw and read a book by the garden window.
The architects created a new entrance for the home which leads directly into the new addition.
Terrazzo tile floors with solid brass are featured throughout the open plan layout. The cork inserts between the ceiling's vaulted beams were inspired by home's original design.
The roundness of the house lends itself perfectly to an open, wallless floor plan.

The entrance to the hotel’s main volume is through a plantation of white flower cherry trees. The common areas include the reception, main hall, meeting room, bar, and restaurant. There are also 10 rooms with private patios, each with a fruit tree.
The rooms were designed to echo the region’s bungalow-style homes with simple midcentury elements. Each of the 13 rooms feature exposed white wood beams and offer private patios with handmade hammocks. Bed frames by Design Within Reach host Casper mattresses where guests can rest their heads after a long day of surf and sun.

A central fireplace is the focus of the living area.
Uninterrupted walls of glass in the living area offer views of the Indian Canyons Golf Course, the Disney fountain, and the picturesque mountain range.
When the house’s existing slab proved too damaged, Gelpi opted for a terrazzo floor tile by Perpetua in the same dimensions as the exterior tiles.

The BuildHer Collective, a development company whose aim is to empower women to tackle their own construction projects, teams up with architects Bellemo & Cat. 
For this recently sold home in Northcote, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia, BuildHer partnered with the homeowner to help her purchase the land, as well as manage the design and build team, which consisted of renowned architects Bellemo & Cat and contractor Beirin. The result is a stunning remodel that combines a new sun-dappled extension with a renovated period home.

A Knoll Womb Chair is the perfect place to lounge off the living room. The homeowners replaced nine types of flooring—including linoleum and green shag carpeting—with terrazzo tiles and carpet in the bedrooms.
