Outdoor Design Photos and Ideas

The spacious rooftop deck features Tigerwood planks and an outdoor fireplace, which creates a cozy setting from which to enjoy spectacular sunsets. There's also a wine fridge on the spiral staircase leading to the deck—so you don't have to traipse back to the kitchen when you need annother bottle.

The outdoor pool features a sundeck, private, shaded daybeds, and indoor/outdoor lounge.
An extension of the internal circulation of the residence culminates in a dramatic view of Yankee Point Cove and the ocean from the cantilevered end of this boardwalk.
The house was deliberately sited to preserve the two-acre property’s existing trees, three of which can be seen protruding through the surface of a rear deck.
MODERN TAKE ON A TRADITIONAL FARMHOUSE IN MISSOURI

Thanks to Matthew Hufft, their envelope-pushing architect and longtime friend, Hannah and Paul Catlett have a new home in southwestern Missouri that’s a fresh, unconventional take on the traditional farmhouse. The homeowners call the house Porch House after it's majestic wraparound porch.

The Phoenix home of designers and builders Sarah Swartz Wessel and Ethan Wessel sits amid desert-friendly trees and plants. The couple bought the property in 1998 and worked on the house for a decade.

A stairway leads up to a roof deck, inspired by the historic sleeping porches in the area that take advantage of the cold nights to cool off in the desert.

The glazed canopy extends to the garden to shield against the rain, ease the sunshine but does not degrade the light quality in the inner space.

Ever aware of context, architect Henry Siegel says of his house, “A lot of architects’ buildings look better on a pedestal than in context. Our design would look out of place on a pedestal—we placed it so it really fits its specific site.”
