    @arnejacobsen
    Arne Jacobsen was born in 1902 and studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and became one of the country’s preeminent architects and designers in the mid-20th century. Though his early work was primarily private residents, he went on to design the SAS Royal Hotel—one of the city’s only skyscrapers—and the Danish National Bank, renowned for its hanging staircase in its lobby. Despite his public commissions, Jacobsen’s touch remained in the private realm as well, with lighting fixture designs for Danish manufacturer Louis Poulsen and furniture for Fritz Hansen. This includes his iconic Ant and Series 7 chairs made out of molded plywood, as well as the Swan and Egg chairs that were originally designed for the lobby of the SAS Royal Hotel.

  • Design Crush
    @designcrush
    designcrushblog.com I’ve loved art and design for as long as I can remember. (Seriously.) Since making the move from the world of advertising to design (and the 6 states in between), my day-to-day life plays out as author of Design Crush, freelance graphic designer, and creative consultant. What began in June 2007 as a place to catalogue design inspiration for my day job quickly grew into a design crush of massive proportions. I keep every post short and sweet, showing off anything and everything I’m inspired by. Never anything I’m not. When undistracted by great art and design, I can be found making a mess in the kitchen, hanging out in dive bars and stalking professional mascots. I share my Pittsburgh home with three laid-back cats and two mischievous dogs.

  • Xenia Taler
    @xenia_taler
    THE MAKERS Who: Partners Xenia Taler and Steven Koblinsky. Xenia designs the tiles, Steven crafts the clay and glazes. Where: In their Toronto studio. When: Since 1996. How: Tiles are pressed in molds made of wood, or extruded. Glazes are mixed from scratch. All tiles are decorated by hand. Why: Because we hope that one day, a long, long time from now, not only will your children fight mercilessly over the wonderful tiles you had so wisely purchased, but even when humankind is forced to venture off this world and fend amongst the stars, those tiles will be the second or third item on a strict ten item list which your descendents feel they must take along with them on their arduous journey. THE TILES We make two kinds of tiles:Our wall hanging tiles come with a groove in the back for hanging as well as cork on the bottom and glazed sides. They are suited to withstand heat and can be used as coasters and trivets. Our installation tiles are thinner and have unglazed sides for grouting. Applications include kitchens, bathrooms, fireplaces and tabletops. Either thin or thick tile can be used for installation but it is better to order the thinner tiles with unglazed sides if you are definitely planning on installing them. To order our thinner tiles, please see our Installation Tile section. CARE Most soaps and detergents are fine to use. Avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners. Also avoid children with permanent markers. (Seriously, the marker die will seep into the crackle.)

    @allisonjackson
    Allison Jackson graduated with a textiles degree from Louisiana State University before beginning a career in sales and marketing back home in Atlanta. For more than 10 years, Allison found success in sales by building close relationships with all of her clients. She discovered a passion for working with people, which is what led her to real estate. Whether you are looking to buy, sell or even rent, she will work hard to create a close relationship that will continue beyond the mortgage papers. As an extremely active member of the Atlanta community, her focus spans many neighborhoods including Buckhead, Brookhaven, Midtown, Virginia-Highland and East Atlanta. She loves working with new home buyers, new sellers and growing families alike. For Allison, a home isn’t just a house. It is a piece of the owner’s identity, a place where memories are made and a future can unfold. She considers it her privilege to be a part of the whole experience – from move-out to move-in, to the next time you need to list or buy. Start to finish, she will be there to offer support and guidance with a high-energy attitude and an impressive level of home design expertise. That’s just her way of bringing some Louisiana “lagniappe” to her business. Allison is involved in several philanthropic efforts in Atlanta, volunteering with organizations such as Shepherd Center Society, the Alzheimer’s Foundation, Pink Agenda and serving as the Volunteer Chair for Atlanta Charity Clays. She spends whatever down time she finds hanging out with friends, family and her adorable cavapoo named Bourbon.
  • Transpace
    @transpace
    Transpace designs flat packed prefabricated portable buildings through the systematic application of lite steel beam, panels and adjustable legs and can be set up in a day by 2-4 people with a basic toolkit. No tradespeople are needed on site. The patented Building Construction System brings together a unique combination of flat packed design, modular design, cyclone rated design, ease of assembly using Australian Standard design and materials. What is the need/pain point/want/problem you are solving with your idea? The current Transpace market of which I have sold 8 are Office Retreats that fill the market demand of people working from Home and want an office to reduce their carbon footprint while being able to claim a separate office as a work expense. How are you solving it? Most portable buildings are using materials that are not used in permanent building giving them a portable feel when you step foot into them. They are delivered fully assembled on a truck and craned onto site and therefore are constrained by truck dimensions. The competitive advantage of Transpace is the innovative steel frame where all components can be carried through a standard doorway which is ideal for clients who do not have road or crane access to their property, whether that be because they have low hanging power lines or a forest without a clearing for a road.
