Nomadic Italian designer Daniele Bortotto gleans inspiration from the places he visits: “I’m always on a train,” he says. Bortotto has tapped into generations of craftsmanship found in Venice and Treviso, working with master glassblower Massimo Lunardon on his Passerelle vases; with perfumer Lorenzo Dante Ferro on a range of plucky silicone scent diffusers; and with 125-year-old textiles company Rubelli on I Sestieri, a Jacquard loom fabric that mimics the colors and textures of Venetian walls. Borotto’s craft-centric yet heady approach comes courtesy of IUAV in Venice and ECAL in Lausanne, Switzerland. Bortotto says that he mixes the practical and the theoretical, perhaps best expressed in his thesis project, a series of objects that explore scent and memory.

She is known for several large-scale museum projects, including Musée d'Orsay in Paris, the Contemporary Art Gallery at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, Palazzo Grassi in Venice, and the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco. Luca Nichetto was born in 1976 in Venice, where he studied at the Art Institute. Afterwards he attended the University Institute of Architecture of Venice (IUAV), where he earned a degree inIndustrial Design. He began his professional career in 1999 by designing his first projects in Murano glass for Salviati. That same year he began his collaboration with Foscarini, for whom he not only designed products,but also worked as a consultant on new materials research and product development (2001–2003). In 2006 he launched his own design firm, Nichetto & Partners, which specializes in industrial design and offers its services as a design consultancy. In 2011 he also opened another professional office inStockholm,Sweden. Born in Oleggio (Novara) in 1927, Carlo Mazzeri graduated in architecture from the Istituto Universitario di Architettura in Venice in 1956 and, after an early collaboration with Carlo Scarpa in Venice, with the architect Mario Righini’s studio he took part in the competition for the Colonia Olivetti in Brusson and the Carrara Chamber of Commerce, and took one of the top places. In 1957 he designed the cocktail shaker “870” with Luigi Massoni, which was one of the first Alessi objects designed by external collaborators and which is still in production and can be found in bars worldwide. In the ‘60s and ‘70s with Anselmo Vitale he designed a complete collection of objects for Alessi which were primarily for use in the hotel industry. He was involved in civil and industrial construction, responsible among other things for the Alessi plant in Omegna (1960-1971), the Girmi electrical household appliances factory (1962) and the Lagostina offices (1964), which were also in Omegna, the renovation of the driers and the new warehouse for 3M Italia in Ferrania (1970) and the Salumificio Romano Mainelli in Oleggio (1972). In the field of industrial design he has also collaborated with Girmi, Lagostina, Bialetti, Indesit, Fonderie Filiberti and Triplex. In 1973 he opened a studio of architecture in Novara, becoming involved in civil architecture, restoration and town planning.

Sierra Holland received her formal education in New York, attending Parsons the New School of Design, and Pratt Institute, where she graduated with a bachelor's in Design & Management and master's in Interior Design, respectively. A portion of her training included an immersive exchange in Copenhagen, Denmark which revealed an inherent passion for and deep resonance with many Nordic design principles and Scandinavian culture. She later went on to live and work in Denmark for five years as a lead designer for prestigious global brands Bang & Olufsen and Pandora Jewelry. Several notable works include developing and scaling new store concepts world-wide, as well as designing and implementing annual exhibitions at Milan Design Week and in congruence with the Venice Biennale. His works have been exhibited at the Venice Biennale in Turin, Italian Pavillon (2012) and have been awarded of the Artisan Excellence Award. Doriana O. Mandrelli was born in Rome, where she graduated in History of Art from La Sapienza University in 1979. At the same University, she attended the School of Architecture, taught contemporary architecture and was a member of the board of In/arch (Istituto Nazionale di Architettura). She is director’s assistance at the 7th International Biennale of Architecture in Venice and curator of some special sections of the exhibition. In 2002 she was named Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres de la République Française. Her partnership with Massimiliano Fuksas dates from 1985. She directs the Fuksas Design Section. Her work is characterised by continuous research into new materials and new techniques of manufacturing.

A+R is British ex-pat Andy Griffith, a former film editor and self-avowed design junkie, and Rose Apodaca, a pop culture and style journalist and author. In late 2005, the pair opened their tiny shop down the street from their home in the heart of L.A's creative enclave known as Silver Lake, keen on sharing their excitement for great new design with anyone who would listen. They followed up a year later with an online store. In fall 2007, A+R moved the store across town to Abbot Kinney in Venice, a town equally filled with a creative population who embrace the A+R viewpoint.
