Dr. Jill Abram, a board-certified psychiatrist from Indiana, has dedicated 38 years to the field of psychiatry, focusing on child and adolescent mental health. Her career has been marked by a commitment to healing and restoring the well-being of communities, families, and individuals. She utilizes her extensive professional and academic experience to provide top-tier mental health care.
Throughout her career, she has made significant contributions in various settings. She initially worked with the Homeless Mobile Team at Midtown Mental Center in Indianapolis from 1988 to 1990. She then continued her service as a psychiatrist for the Child Team for Mental Health in Anderson, Indiana, for six years until 1996. Following this, she transitioned into private practice in Fishers, Indiana, and concurrently worked at Pleasant Run Children's Home, a historic orphanage in Indianapolis.
Her practice extended back to Anderson for nearly seven years, during which she also held positions as the adolescent psychiatrist at Northeast Juvenile Correctional Facility and Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility. She further lent her expertise as the psychiatric consulting physician at Fortville Christian Youth Home. Her career also includes roles in Indianapolis, working in private practice, as a psychiatrist at the Counseling Center Christian Theological Seminary, and at the Family Counseling Center. She also consulted at Richmond State Hospital and was involved with the Medical Staff Community Hospitals of Indianapolis.
Her influence extended beyond Indiana. She consulted at the Boys and Girls Home of Alaska and was part of the medical staff at North Star Hospital in Anchorage. She contributed to the initiation of psychiatric telemedicine services through the Four County Counseling Center, which impacted Peru, Kokomo, and Logansport, Indiana.
Her collaboration with the Department of Mental Health led to the development of coordinated care systems integrating the Department of Education and the Department of Families and Children. She also consulted with the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center and participated in both the Conscience Development Research and Study Group and a Trauma and Dissociation study group.
Academically, Jill Abram graduated Summa Cum Laude from Hanover College with a major in Chemistry and minors in Biology and Psychology. Her medical education was completed at the Indiana University School of Medicine, where she also engaged in a year of research. Her achievements during her education include receiving the Academic Medicine Achievement Award and representing her university at the National Juvenile Diabetes Association.
Her postgraduate training included a residency at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, Indiana, and a comprehensive residency in Psychiatry at Indiana University School of Medicine, culminating in a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. In 1990, her dedication to medical education was honored with the Golden Apple Award.
Before retiring, she was licensed in Indiana and Alaska and certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Since June 1991, she has been an active member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, contributing to the field through publications in the Journal of Endocrinology and the Journal of Diabetes.
