• Drewett Works
    @drewettworks
    Drewett Works is about an architecture of time and place. An award-winning Arizona-based firm specializing in high-end residential and hospitality projects, Drewett Works unlocks the mysteries of the site to yield buildings that express the deepest essences of the client, the venue, and the intended uses. A large portion of the firm’s body of work is in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona, a natural cornucopia that is a dream canvas for any architect. Founder and lead architect C.P. Drewett brings to the table a passion rooted in his childhood, working with his Marine Corps aviator father, also a woodworking hobbyist, to create objects of lasting beauty. His family moved 18 times during his childhood, giving him a deep sense of respect for regional architectural traditions while fostering excitement about making an impact on a local scale. The 18-person Drewett studio is diverse and brings a keen variety of perspectives and experiences to the design process. The firm’s design approach is restrained and reductive – Drewett edits down the massing and materials palettes to get at the core of the expressive idea. Inspired by the grandees of modernist design without being beholden to them, Drewett Works creates houses that will grace the landscape long after the initial clients and designers are gone. It is design for the ages. No stranger to acclaim, Drewett Works is the recipient of a multitude of honors, and its work has consistently appeared in high-end design publications. Current firm projects span the U.S. from Florida to California as well as Loreto and Los Cabos, Mexico. The firm recently published its first book: STRATA: a desert dwelling (Oscar Riera Ojeda Publishers), featuring the company’s biggest single-residential project to date.

  • Flavor Paper
    @flavor_paper
    Founded on the Oregon coast by a guy named Ted, this small handscreened wallpaper company flourished in the Age of Aquarius. Many years later, some young designers seeking striking wallcoverings discovered Ted's greatness—just days before the designs and equipment were to be destroyed. Knowing what had to be done, these young designers headed west to save Ted's legacy. Relocated to the Bywater District of New Orleans, Flavor Paper continued to print using Ted's traditional printing methods and vacuum table, but with increased accuracy and detail. The Flavor Lab is now located in the Cobble Hill section of Brooklyn and is home to Flavor Paper's design and screenprinting operations. Two reengineered versions of Ted's original table are the centerpiece of the Lab and the backbone of the wallpaper printing operation. To support the hand screened printing process, the Flavor Lab houses a darkroom, screen etching equipment, and an ink room where they custom mix all of their colors. Printing becomes street art as the front windows allow pedestrians to watch the process happen in the massive overhead mirrors. The Flavor Paper showroom is located on the second floor and offers clients a unique way to view wallpaper.

  • HILL works
    @hillworks
    HILL works is a small yet agile design studio that oscillates between the disciplines of architecture and landscape architecture. David Hill, founding principal, was raised among an assortment of flora in his family's plant nursery in South Georgia. In an attempt to flee the land of containers and ever-present weeds, he initially pursued a career in architecture. Alas, during his graduate studies at the University of Virginia, his fascination with plants eventually beckoned him back into the landscape leading him to obtain a Master's Degree in both Architecture and Landscape Architecture. David currently holds professional licenses in Landscape Architecture as well as Architecture. David serves as an assistant professor in the Graduate Program of Landscape Architecture at Auburn University. Prior to founding HILLworks, David helped unearth post-industrial landscapes as an Associate at D.I.R.T. studio in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he managed projects such as Urban Outfitters Headquarters in the Philadelphia Navy Yard, Voelcker Park in San Antonio Texas, the Historic Pabst Brewery in Milwaukee Wisconsin, and the Holy Cross Project in New Orleans Louisiana.
  • Paper Source
    @paper_source
    Paper Source is a premiere paperie and retail store offering a unique selection of fine and artisanal papers, stationery, invitations, gift wrap, greeting cards, quirky gifts and a custom collection of envelopes and cards. Paper Source offers an original and distinctive aesthetic, with a color palette and proprietary designs that are developed and created exclusively by us. At Paper Source, our mission is to inspire you to "do something creative every day" -- to spark ideas and provide materials to celebrate life moments with beauty, humor, originality, and personal expression. A funny card, a lovely invitation, a beautifully bound album, a wrapped gift - we believe that each offers a unique opportunity for creative expression in everyday life. At Paper Source, we are committed to innovation and original design, offering an assortment that allows our customers to express themselves through inspired creativity. Our goal is to continue to bring the unique Paper Source experience closer to our customers by opening new stores around the country and expanding the product offering on our web site. Paper Source was founded in 1983 by Sue Lindstrom, a woman who was delightfully obsessed with paper. Inspired by the traditional papermaking artistry in Japan, Sue opened the first Paper Source store in Chicago to showcase beautiful handcrafted papers from around the world. Through the years, Paper Source grew its product offering beyond fine paper and expanded its reach with the introduction of a robust web store and a wholesale division, Waste Not Paper. Today, Paper Source has dedicated design and product development teams that produce exclusive new kits, stationery, gift wrap and invitation designs each year. In 2007, Paper Source received an infusion of growth capital from Brentwood Associates, a private equity investment firm with a shared passion for the Paper Source brand and a likeminded goal for nurturing and growing consumer businesses. Sue and her business partner Jim York carefully selected Brentwood and together they brought in Sally Pofcher as CEO. Under Sally's leadership, Paper Source has stepped up its commitment to the environment and opened 9 new stores, bringing our total to 30 stores in 13 states, with plans to open more stores in 2009. What's with the wasp?The diligent paper wasp creates its nest by chewing bark and leaves into a paper-like pulp, and thus receives our affectionate designation as the original paper maker. So, in tribute to our fellow paper aficionado, fold yourself an origami cup and offer a papery toast to the insect who started it all!

  • American Design Club
    @amdc
    The American Design Club—AmDC—was conceived in the spring of 2008. At the time, American relevance in design was in question, and many postulated that US designers would never be as prominent or prolific as European designers. The founders saw that there was plenty of talent and ambition within American designers, but what was ultimately missing was a way for designers to share their work with a broad audience. The AmDC founding members created a platform where designers could launch new ideas and connect with each other. The AmDC began as a community that was submission-based, in which the strongest pieces would be displayed. This method enabled the AmDC to create shows that granted exposure to new designers.
