In the living room, tall leaning shelves frame handcrafted artwork. A geometric bronze coffee tables complements the green velvet sectional, which offers plenty of space to gather.
Set on the parlor level of the home is a large and airy library, which can easily be converted into a fifth bedroom. Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves (designed by Pei) stretch across one wall, while bespoke doors on the opposite side hide even more storage.

A lot of experimentation went into the fill for the Beanie Sofa, also designed by Edwards Anker. She ultimately settled on lentils after experimenting with buckwheat, coffee beans, and other legumes. "We found that lentils were the right consistency, and shape, and size for the scale of the sofa," she says. She combined "one long bean bag" with wood skeletal support, which helps sitters to maintain healthy posture. It’s also an excellent spot to stargaze through the skylights.
In the living room, reclaimed white oak beams clearly mark where the wall stops and the gables begin. The wood herringbone floors were lightened, and bold furniture was brought in to brighten up the space. A circular custom sofa designed by MKCA, upholstered in a bright blue synthetic textile from Maharam, serves as the centerpiece of the room, readily available for family time, intimate conversation, or parties. Surrounding a vintage brass table are a sculptural chair by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and poufs upholstered in shaggy mohair. The carpet by MKCA is made from joining two shapes of broadloom synthetic silk together.
A gray onyx and bronze fireplace mantel is flanked by turquoise glass sconces and a vintage Fontana Arte mirror. Alongside sits a bone console and a sculptural stainless steel shelving unit by François Monnet. The room features a painting by artist Ilona Savdie, and drawings by Karin Haas.
The home has a state-of-the-art theater with surround sound—ideal for movie lovers or those in the film or television industry.
The clients restored the living room's marble fireplace and painted the grate Benjamin Moore Black. New crown molding was added and the walls painted Sherwin Williams Origami White.
Spaces flow freely from one to the next, creating a continuous open floor plan.
Walnut casework anchors both sides of the original fireplace. Steel plate provides a modern interpretation of the traditional hearth.
Most of the furnishings are from from Globe West.
She accomplished this by adding a 13-foot-long highlight window that keeps the main living areas bright throughout the day.
