"In our living room, we have a fairly large abstract piece from Sally King Benedict that was gifted from her years ago," says Amanda.
A hammock chair in the living room overlooks the wood stove at the center and the sofa against the west wall, creating a cozy living space.
A new wood-panel wall is a focal point in the open layout. The original white oak floors were also refinished.

The wall paneling and living room screens are a waxed white oak.
Some of the living room walls were painted with a gray lime wash by Portola Paints, while other walls were finished with Nebulous White by Sherwin Williams. The pink, wall-mounted light is from Anthropologie.
A motley assortment of contemporary local and international art curated by the Detroit gallery Library Street Collective enlivens the hotel.

A highly curated collection of artwork adorns the vibrant lobby, which is richly textured with dark woods, lush jewel-toned velvets, brass, and leather. A work by Jesse Mockrin hangs above the hearth.
The skylights in the hotel's lobby were old, dirty, and "a little bit decrepit," according to Goldstein. The updated space is filled with light and buzzing with creativity.
Eco-friendly features like solar panels and rainwater catchments keep this retreat's environmental footprint small. Immediately to the right of the entry is the main living space, which features a Jetmaster 700D wood-burning fireplace with a tiled hearth.
Additions were made to enlarge the kitchen, study, and family room. The master suite was shifted through the redesign, and a bathroom and walk-in closet were also added. Originally, the home did not have a fireplace. However, the client had grown up with one and wanted to enjoy the qualities associated with a fireplace as the centerpiece of the home.
The living room also offers new lighting from Restoration Hardware, a decorative fireplace, and newly installed wide-plank oak floors.
The home's character has maintained intact by preserving beautiful period details such as the wood-burning fireplace and the vaulted ceilings.
