GamFratesi Design Studio was established in 2006 by furniture designers Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi. Gam is Danish, while Fratesi is Italian, and together they represent a new interpretation of the meeting between Danish and international design traditions. GamFratesi's design takes its creative drive from a fusion of traditional and experimental approaches in materials and techniques. With both of their backgrounds, Gam and Fratesi draw on the classic Danish furniture and craft tradition as well as the classic Italian intellectual and conceptual approach. Nate Berg is an assistant editor at Planetizen, an urban-planning-news website. He'd never written about buildings, so he was a bit intimidated to pen a piece about the Rimrock Ranch house designed by architect Lloyd Russell in the Southern California desert. In the end, he focused on the ways in which the home reflects the ideology of owner Jim Austin as it blends into its surroundings. As for the house itself, "it sure is pretty," Berg says.
