Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Lydia Lee is a writer and editor specializing in architecture and design, with a particular interest in sustainability. Currently, she is an editor at the California edition of The Architect’s Newspaper. Her writing has also appeared in Metropolis, the New York Times T Magazine, Dwell, Eco-Structure, the San Francisco Chronicle, and many other publications. Lee has also been on staff at California Home+Design, Salon.com, The Industry Standard, and NewMedia. She got her start as a technology reporter, and once got to interview Claudia Schiffer about her custom pink Palm. Percival Lafer is a prolific Brazilian designer known for his ingenuity and innovation. Lafer studied at Mackenzie Presbyterian University's College of Architecture in São Paulo (1960) before going on to run his father's furniture buisness with his brothers. It was during this time, in the store's custom upholstery workroom, that Lafer began to design furniture. After his first chair (MP-001) became a hit, Lafer created his first factory to mass produce affordable furniture, specifically for the Brazilian stateside store Brazil Contempo. By 1974, Lafer had produced a wide range of work, including the now-vintage MP Lafer sports car, kiosks, telephone booths, and fiberglass architectural components. Today, Lafer produces ergonomically correct recliners for the home and healthcare markets.
