• Lundberg Design
    @lundbergdesign
    Lundberg Design is a San Francisco-based twenty person architectural firm founded by Olle Lundberg in 1987 that does work for private and commercial clients throughout the United States. We specialize in high-end modern design, with no particular emphasis on any particular building type. While the core of our practice is architectural, we remain committed to providing design at many levels and are often involved in product, landscape, graphic, and sculpture design. Our signature style tends to be characterized by sculptural form, simply and elegantly executed, with a firm belief in the importance of the carefully thought out detail. We also have our own dedicated 4,000 sq. ft. metal fabrication facility for custom design work and experimentation. All of the design work is centered on the qualities of materials – how they can be plied, bent and cut to produce a visual and tactile result. We are a firm that loves the physical qualities of the objects we create. We are located in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco, in a 1933 mattress factory building. It is a perfect building for the kind of firm we are – raw concrete walls and exposed timber trusses, with high volumes and enough square footage to house our architectural practice, fabrication shop, and even a work-week apartment for Olle. The practice has always been very diverse – we have designed homes, restaurants, wineries, corporate headquarters, distilleries, hotels, apartment buildings, bars, lobbies, and even San Francisco’s bus shelters. We describe our style as “nature-inspired modernism,” and we strive for elegant, simple solutions in our work. We like materials with substance – wood, stone, steel; materials with heft and texture – really the opposite of veneer. For us the making of architecture is a collaborative act; between ourselves and especially with our clients – while we aim for poetry we also pride ourselves on making buildings that work very, very well.

  • Eric Pfeiffer
    @eric_pfeiffer
    Eric Pfeiffer served as the VP of Design at Offi from 2000 through 2004, coordinating product design and directing the Offi innovation process. During his prolific tenure at Offi, he designed most of the products that were introduced and was credited with several design awards, including the 2003 ID Magazine award for the Offi Perch Lounge. Also while at Offi, Eric co-authored a book called "Bent Ply: the Art of Plywood Furniture", which features the step-by-step making of the Offi Wave Desk. We miss his day-to-day contact, but given his understanding of the Offi innovation process, you will continue to see many more Offi products "designed by Eric Pfeiffer." In January 2005 Eric started his new design studio "Pfeiffer Lab" with the goal of exploring the "the design of everyday objects in our lives." Pfeiffer Lab relies on Eric's penchant for simplicity of form to create useful and elegant solutions for everyday living. His reductive designs are expressed in timeless forms that recognize a product's usefulness and necessity while exhibiting the beauty and honesty of a products material.

  • Kai Kristiansen
    @kaikristiansen
    Kai Kristiansen was born in 1929 and plied his trade in the Golden age of mid-century modernism. He trained at Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakaemi in Copenhagen, and worked under fellow famed furniture designer Kaare Klint until 1950 as a journeyman cabinetmaker before setting up a design workshop of his own in 1955. Clean-lined teak and rosewood pieces—chairs, desks, tables, and sideboards—characterize his collection, and over the course of his career he collaborated with a wide range of manufacturers and organized regional and Scandinavian furniture fairs in the late 1960s.

    ABOUTFor nine years I worked at jack spade creating a wide range of items—bags and accessories, books and stationery, flyswatters and ping pong paddle covers. I left in February of 2009 and began my own line, a small collection of everyday items for men & women. My line consists of four bag shapes, two shirt styles and an assortment of accessories (belts, bookmarks, coasters, ashtrays, stationery, lighter covers, keyfobs, a pencil case, and a travel-sized backgammon set). The button-down shirts and sturdy canvas bags draw inspiration from materials that improve with age—two-ply cotton oxford shirting and heavy cotton canvas. These straightforward shapes employ superior natural materials and thoughtful construction. LABEL My label features the nine planets of our solar system with the Sun (as a tetherball) in the center. Leading scientists announced recently that Pluto no longer qualifies as a planet, so technically there should only be eight planets and the Sun, but I have a soft spot for Pluto so it has remained on the label.
  • IglooPlay
    @iglooplay
    Iglooplay is a children's furniture collection from Lisa Albin Design that combines organic forms, ergonomics and a modernist sensibility to playfully engage both children and adults. The designs respond to the idea that child development flourishes from contact with sculptural forms, material variation and color, and incorporate bent plywood, hardwood veneers, rich colors and soft, upholstered foam. The furniture provides a safe sense of place for children, enhances creativity through play and integrates gracefully into contemporary, everyday family life. Iglooplay's modern point of view embraces simplicity and quality and above all, respect for children. multi-functional + multi-generational. The multi-functional designs were inspired by observations of my two young daughters at play and how they artfully created a sense of place using the objects around them. I developed the low and wide proportions, organic shapes and ease-of-use to enhance the spontaneous and creative process that children naturally express in their daily play. Child's play has a profound sense of purpose; it is not all folly, but a necessity for children to learn how to negotiate their developing physical and intellectual skills. Or, as Maria Montessori said, "play is a child's work." In addition, the designs are multi-generational engaging, aesthetically pleasing and adaptable for various adult uses as well. green + safe. Because nurturing our children and our earth are a perfect fit, we use eco-friendly materials that will sustain families and the environment for many years to come. By working with forms and materials that are designed to last, we reduce waste and consume less of our natural resources. We use resource-efficient molded ply construction with hardwood veneers which have been obtained from sustained yield forestry practice. Having fewer pieces in your home that can serve a variety of ages means less stuff and less waste. Each product is tested at an independent safety lab authorized by the JPMA to ensure juvenile product compliance.
