Eager to flee the city at a moment’s notice, a couple who run a creative studio in Bratislava decided it was time for a weekend home. On a forested plot overlooking a lake in nearby Vojkanad Dunajom, architect Peter Jurkovič of JRKVC created a calming cabin that frames views of the countryside.
Like all of the restored structures, the interior of the school house features a modern and bright aesthetic. The cottages range in size from one bedroom up to a nine-bedroom main house.
The sofa is by Petter Skogstad for Cremme.
A gray onyx and bronze fireplace mantel is flanked by turquoise glass sconces and a vintage Fontana Arte mirror. Alongside sits a bone console and a sculptural stainless steel shelving unit by François Monnet. The room features a painting by artist Ilona Savdie, and drawings by Karin Haas.
Across from the sofa area is a linen-wrapped game table for casual gatherings.
From the main room, passageways lead to the bedroom and bathroom.
A circular skylight on the top of the domed roof draws in plenty of natural light.
A cozy family room has been created off the kitchen, and includes a custom built-in breakfast nook and sofa.
By combining a carefully chosen selection of items from Home Depot, Walmart, Target, Lowes, and IKEA with vintage and designer accessories, the couple have managed to infuse a variety of styles into the camper, while staying within their budget.
Built with weathered timber, it's equipped with hydro-electric and geothermal power.
