This Mountain Hideaway in the Czech Republic Burrows Into a Meadow
For this remote weekend retreat in a protected area of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids, a mountain range in the Czech Republic, Pavel Míček Architects let the materials set the tone. Contrasting concrete and larch wood—heaviness and lightness—balance out the nearly 2,000-square-foot dwelling, with its concrete base burrowing into the earth and supporting its wood-clad bedrooms and living areas. Over time, moss will obscure the concrete walls, and the larch will develop a silvery patina, blurring the boundaries between the residence and the surrounding meadow.
