Ariane Goldman—the founder, CEO, and mom behind HATCH Collection—reveals her top picks for furnishing a kid-friendly room that doesn’t sacrifice aesthetics.

Ariane Goldman founded HATCH Collection in 2011 after finding a hole in the maternity wear world for fashionable, yet comfortable pieces that adapt to fit with bodies before, during, and after pregnancy. Below, she shares some of her favorite furnishings and decor for kids’ rooms, from the nursery days through elementary school.

"I love all Anthropologie everything, especially the Moroccan-inspired rug selection. I don’t think you need to lean too hard into childish-looking rugs for kids. Anything with cool prints and fun colors will add a Bohemian, stylish feel to the space."

Anthropologie Handwoven Priya Rug
With a versatile diamond motif, this flat-woven rug makes modern spaces feel timeless—and traditional rooms feel refreshed.

"Parachute’s sateen sheets are a cozy upgrade from any other bedding sets for kids. I like setting the tone and laying the foundation with a soft color palette, and then letting my girls choose some over-the-top throw pillows to add in some flair."

Parachute Sateen Sheet Set
Crafted in Portugal from 100 percent premium, certified long-staple Egyptian cotton, the Sateen sheet set is soft and durable with a smooth feel that only gets better with time.

"These prints add a fun, geometric pop of color without overtaking the space. I love putting fun pieces of art into my girls’ rooms. If you’re going to sit there nursing and rocking for hours on end, you might as well have something cool to look at."

Tom Pigeon New Balance Set of 3
Balance is one of Tom Pigeon’s best-selling prints. This series of interconnecting foiled screen prints explores the tension and balance between a set of simple geometric shapes, which topple and roll across the three prints.

"This pendant light is an easy addition that’s subtle yet architectural. I love the crisp feeling of the white—it goes with everything else in the room and adds a bit of a statement, but doesn’t overpower the rest of the space."

Herman Miller Nelson Ball Crisscross Bubble Pendant
While outfitting his office, architect and Herman Miller design director George Nelson discovered a silk-covered Swedish hanging lamp that he coveted but found too expensive.

"While my nursing days are long gone, it’s still nice to have a place to sit in your kids’ room, whether you’re breastfeeding on demand, reading a story, or just chatting after a long day. This piece adds a retro vibe, and it’s cool enough to throw in your living room when you need an extra seat."

Resident Isabella Chair
The Isabella Chair is an exercise in the mixing of contrasting proportions. Its ultraslim, three-legged steel base provides robust support and acts as a deliberate variant against a soft seat and tailored back cushion.

"A chic throw is just one more layer for the ultimate cozy bedding experience. Plus, you’ve got something to cuddle up with when you’re rocking your child to sleep for the tenth time that night."

"When it comes to great lighting, I believe more is always more. I think the floor lamp is the unsung hero of a room—it’s not the primary source of lighting, but that’s all the more reason to have some fun with it. I’d place this funky piece in the corner next to a rocking chair or desk."

FLOS IC Floor Lamp
Perched on a slender metal arm, the spherical diffuser of the FLOS IC Floor Lamp relies on careful engineering to balance on its minimalistic frame. The opal shade diffuses the light warmly, playing off the metallic finish of the bracket-shaped stem.

"Whether in the pantry or the closet, I live for elegant storage bins. They make me feel like I could be that mom who actually has it all together and can organize my child’s belongings into a 10-by-10-inch bin. Hey, a girl can dream!"

Open Spaces Medium Storage Bins - Set of 2
Tidy up any room with multipurpose storage for the shelf, pantry, and more.

"My windows are never without curtains—especially in the kids’ rooms. Curtains provide nice coverage from early morning light, so there’s a chance the kids will actually sleep in. I love the Stone color of this set. It’s a nice neutral that darkens the space without feeling too heavy."

Urban Outfitters Palmer Linen Blend Room Darkening Window Panel
Crafted from a linen blend weave, this window panel sets a cozy mood in your space and is topped with ties along the upper edge for easy hanging.

"Spoiler alert: You don’t need a designated changing table. Instead, get yourself a dresser that can double as a changing station by adding a changing pad and cover on top. Then, once your diaper days are over, you have a great stand-alone piece that can go in any room. I love the 1970s vibes of this style."

West Elm Gemini 6-Drawer Dresser
This six-drawer dresser provides out-of-sight storage for bedding, clothes, accessories, and other knickknacks. Set atop lofty legs, it instantly elevates your space.
