Located on a quiet cul-de-sac in the Granada Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, the Sakaguchi residence was completed in 1969 by noted Japanese-American architect Kazumi Adachi.

Adachi, who was born and raised in the United States and attended the University of Southern California School of Architecture, was known for his work throughout Los Angeles in the 1950s and 60s, when he designed a number of residences, schools, and commercial projects.

The five bedroom, five bathroom home is sited on over half an acre of land, and sits adjacent to a local golf course. The owners have installed solar panels on the roof.

While distinctly modern, the Sakaguchi house boasts subtle details that are Japanese-inspired, from shoji-like screens in the living room to imported Japanese wallpaper.

The open living room features Adachi's signature inverted-butterfly ceiling for a sense of height, drama, and movement in the space.

More public spaces like the living room and dining room have high vaulted ceilings and tall sliding glass doors to let in plentiful California sunlight. The home’s five bedrooms and five bathrooms maintain the airy feeling with wood paneling, built-in cabinetry, and floor-to-ceiling glazing.
