The upper addition
The kids' bathroom features polka-dot wallpaper all the way up the walls and onto the ceiling.
The home's glass walls reach heights of up to 30 feet.
The dining room connects to a library and activities space, which is used for classes, talks, and events. Apart from housing, the ground floor of the building contains two public-facing storefronts: a small post office and a telecommunications store.
The open doorway that separates the main living area from the kitchen used to be the entrance to the house. Back then, you had to go outdoors to access the open-air kitchen and bathroom.
A stair from the lower level leads directly up to the covered porch, with the stair tucked behind the kitchen. The outdoor dining table is by Loll Designs and the chairs are from IKEA and Sundso.
The upper level addition contains an open living area with kitchen and dining. The wall casework is birch plywood and the grey casework is painted marine grade plywood, both were designed and built by Johnson.
The "appliance garage
Introducing a new gable over the entry and lifting the roof line created a new view corridor towards Pike's Peak, and helped draw more daylight inside.

A sliver of mirror cleverly conceals the gap between the existing marble slabs and the new, more contemporary architraves. Golden yellow grout gives new life to the marble slabs, and brings out the gold veining—which was the catalyst for the entire color scheme.
The living area is defined by a playful collection of furniture, includign a Nuvola 05 armchair by Gervasoni, an orange Altar Side Table by Tacchini, and an iconic Michele De Lucchi Memphis Milano Collection coffee table with a yellow top and striped base. As the marble slabs surrounding the bath were retained from the original fit-out, it was impossible to change the tapware—which was a shiny chrome and felt dated. To give it new life and a more contemporary style, Prineas had it powdercoated in the same bold blue color as the new tapware.

The greenhouse top as seen from the driveway. The garage and former basement level of the original building has been transformed into new living quarters: a small guesthouse for when family and friends visit.
The primary bedroom and bath are connected via a soaring wood-trimmed archway.
“It has a public and private feel, which we like.” A French blue table designed by David adds color to the dining area. “It was important to us to have unexpected and whimsical elements in the house,” says Mark. “We didn’t want it to be too serious.”
“We listened carefully to the house, and tried to do what it needed,” Carisa says.
One of the couple’s favorite new details is the built-in, L-shaped bookcase in the den.
"As you wander down into the western meadow with the mountaintop looming over, you'll find a large fire pit & the summer kitchen inspired by Francis Mallman's Patagonian home and Argentinian style outdoor cooking. The structure has a designated well & hot water, a refrigerator & propane stove. It is wired for internet and stands on a bluestone patio with an outdoor shower on the far exterior wall."
Original floor-to-ceiling bookshelves enhance the grand sense of space in the living room.
