Aaron Probyn studied product & furniture design at Kingston University. After his graduation he became Design Manager of Table Top department for Habitat, where he worked for more than 6 years. Today Aaron Probyn works from his own design studio where he designs for many different companies such as Crate & Barrel, West Elm, Plumen, Tom Dixon, Conran Studio and Normann Copenhagen.

Our story begins with two friends who expect more from their children’s furniture and feel that high-quality and good design don’t have to be mutually exclusive. So childhood friends Scott Eirinberg and Jamie Cohen took matters into their own hands and founded The Land of Nod in 1996. They started the company in the Chicago suburbs right out of Scott’s own basement, figuring there was nowhere to go but up (literally). Then in 2001, an unexpected hand reached out to Scott and Jamie in the form of Crate and Barrel. The two companies teamed up to expand their catalog and website, while also making Nod’s products more widely available throughout the US. As of 2010, The Land of Nod has been fully owned by Crate and Barrel and provides safe, high-quality home furnishings all over the world.

Established in 2005, Materious is the Chicago-based husband-and-wife studio of Stephanie and Bruce Tharp. The firm's name signals their interest in the phystical substances they use as well as the substantiveness of the pices they design. Their work ranges from the speculative to the ocmmercial, and in addition to their self-produced pieces, they do commissions for companies like Lighe Roset, Moet-Hennessy, The Art Institute of Chicago, Crate&Barrel, and Kikkerland.

Maija Isola (1927–2001) designed her first printed textiles in 1949 for Printex Oy, Marimekko’s predecessor. She worked as head designer of Marimekko’s interior fabrics until 1987. She also had an illustrious career as a visual artist.

Annika Rimala studied graphic arts at the Institute of Industrial Arts of Helsinki. Her neighbor noticed Annika's design-eye early on and encouraged her to work at Marimekko. Her first job at Marimekko was in the children’s department in 1959, and within one year her focused attitude led her to a design position in the factory. Eventually Rimala became Marimekko’s chief fashion designer and her innovative ideas led to her reign the design department for over 20 years from 1960 to 1982.

Maija Louekari was born in Oulu, Finland in 1982. Her designs for Marimekko exhibit a marked sense of location, time, and space. She has portrayed both the crowds of metropolises as the fabric Hetkiä and traditional Finnish landscapes as Kaiku, in a highly vivid manner. Her expressive line drawings and large planes of color combine to create a strong impression of three-dimensionality.

Timo Sarpaneva (1926-2006) was a Finnish designer, sculptor, and educator who was known for his innovative work with glass. The influential designer also worked with metals, woods, textiles, and porcelain. Sarpaneva created functional products that were also aesthetically attractive, including his cast-iron cookware series and porcelain dinnerware. Sarpaneva designed for several renowned Scandinavian design companies, including Iittala and Marimekko.

Born in 1966, Kamali is a postgraduate of The Royal College of Art (1989—1991) in furniture design. After working as a successful freelance designer Kamali established Non Specific Creativity, a multi-disciplined design collective working on a variety of design projects ranging from restaurant design to art installations. She worked with brands such as Habitat, Harvey Nichols, Karen Millen, Global Village and Aero. Kamali officially joined retail design company Aero (London) in 1995 and applied her creativity and design talents across the whole Aero brand. Her work included new product development and design, the redevelopment of Aero’s London stores and design for international design exhibitions in Cologne, Frankfurt, New York and 100% Design London. At Aero she managed the entire merchandising operation of the business from the sourcing and buying-in of products right through to in-store display and packaging.
