Alessi, an icon of Italian design, is a family business founded in 1921 in Omegna, Italy by Giovanni Alessi. The company is known for its stainless steel homewares and collaborations with designers and architects including Richard Sapper, Michael Graves, and Philippe Starck.

Kartell was founded in Milan in 1949 by chemical engineer Giulio Castelli to produce plastic goods, including homewares and lamps. Umbra is a Toronto-based homeware design company born over 35 years ago when graphic designer, Paul Rowan, couldn’t find a nice window shade to hang in his apartment window.
