Akshay Garud is an exceptional bioengineering student with a minor in computer science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), preparing to graduate in 2025. He has mastered various technical skills, including programming languages such as Java, Python, and C++, and he is proficient with software tools like Atom, R Programming, MATLAB Octave, and Node.js. He is also skilled in using applications such as Microsoft Excel, Onshape, Autocad, Autodesk Inventor, and Imagej. His practical skills extend to 3D Printing, API Testing, Data Visualization, Linear Algebra, Machine Learning, and Statistics.
Akshay's rich educational experience is complemented by his involvement in multiple internships, which enhance his theoretical knowledge with real-world applications. He has conducted significant research at the Gritton Lab at UIUC, analyzing neural responses of mice in AI-generated mazes. He has interned at TrussHealth, an innovative healthcare startup leveraging AI to improve patient monitoring, where he developed web applications and conducted API testing. His bioinformatics internship at Base Pair Inc. involved him in developing RNA-seq data processing pipelines and performing detailed genomic data analysis.
Akshay is deeply engaged in the UIUC community outside laboratories and lecture halls. He is a member of the Biomedical Engineering Society and MedLaunch, focusing on initiatives that blend technology with healthcare solutions.
