Pacek and Roynon peeled away wallpaper to reveal layers of old paint that serendipitously complemented the color scheme of their new kitchen, and used a circular frame to preserve a section of it. The matte-chrome handles and pulls are by Mockett.

How a highly productive collaboration among a trio of creative Angelenas—and a good dose of Barragán—turned a dark and beleaguered midcentury house into a family home for the ages. The resulting design acquired its own flow, full of colorful narrative, spirited counterpoint, and anecdote. Now, in place of dark, disconnected spaces, outdoor rooms echo luminous indoor ones, and experimental filmmaker Laura Purdy and her family’s eclectic collections of art and personal artifacts share space with flashes of pattern and interior planes of saffron and pink stucco.

Dwell Outdoor was bigger and better than ever this year with full-scale homes accessories galore.

The "bar" area houses all of the service sections like the kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry room.

The new studio was erected inside the existing brick walls of the barn, while the aluminium ceiling was added separately, its angles chosen to ensure adequate sunlight. “The roof breaks the limits of the building and forms a contrast to all the other architectural elements. Even the slope of the new roof is different from that of the main building,” says Brian Wendin, architect and daylight consultant at VELUX Denmark.

The physical model, like the final installation, is broken down into smaller sections with each section consists of four vertical units.
