Simultaneously sculptural and pragmatic, the undulating form of the W Magazine stand’s molded plywood is both pleasing and useful. It’s compact enough for small spaces, though you may be loath to cover up the figurative grain pattern of the walnut with your magazines. $119-$129

This simple plastic-and-aluminum bottle rack, designed with a small footprint and made to be easily stacked, is about as straightforward and crowd-pleasing as a bottle of good cheap merlot.

Bike rack by Artifox, $250 The sleek, narrow profile of this wall-mounted bike rack, designed by St. Louis–based studio Artifox, makes for both a space-efficient storage solution and a display unit for a proud bicycle owner. Made of solid hardwood and stainless steel, it comes in white maple (shown) or walnut.

Time to Design was established in 2008 to help young designers launch their career. "We find ourselves in the marginal group who still love a simple slice of toast and decided to design something to emphasize this as well as solve a problem that hasn't been addressed for a good 20 to 30 years," Pedersen says of this toast rack. "The size and shape of bread has changed, and so we found that our old inherited toast racks didn't work anymore! Our solution is a simple combination of a wooden breadboard base with a steel or brass rack, which clips in nicely and holds toast [slices] of varying thickness."

Hexa Stacking Wine Rack This modular counter top wine storage unit is made of walnut veneer and, like a beehive, can pack a multitude of storage nooks into a small space.

Loop Hall Coat Rack from Hay This powder coated steel trio of color ways designed by Leif Jørgensen can all tuck easily into a foyer for an understated way to keep those puffy jackets in check. $220

Christina Liljenberg Halstrøm's Georg Coat Rack 115, for Skagerak, hugs the wall and supports dozens of coat hangers (angled away from the wall). Clothing is one of the most voluminous challenges though this system doesn't sacrifice easy sorting and selecting of mulitple clothing articles for square footage.

A sturdy rear rack adds four square feet of storage space for groceries, tools, equipment, and other packages. To put that into perspective for delivery workers, the Spicy Curry can hold up to 40 boxes of pizza at once.

The Loop bike rack is a concept and prototype developed by the Federal, an Ottawa-based design consultancy founded by the industrial designers Ian Murchison and Rohan Thakar. (The name is a nod to their home base in Canada’s capital city.) Paola Navone's Black 94 coat rack is black bamboo, stone and orange cotton pompoms. Designed for Gervasoni, the Black 94 is understated and naturally inspired, resembling freshwater reeds.

In addition to the standard two levels of storage, the dishwasher has a third rack for odd-shaped items like cooking tools.

After initially selling her wares—pouffes, pillows, lampshades, rugs, throws—at the craft shop at Royal Tichelaar Makkum, the oldest ceramics company in the Netherlands, Leen now offers her pieces exclusively through her website and out of her studio, under the label Poetryworld.

More adult playthings, like this pair of bikes live under the stairs, whose cutouts break up the plane of plywood and double as peepholes for kids at play.

The Walnut Coat Rack takes a simple household accent and elevates it with rich walnut wood. Featuring a trestle shape, the coat rack includes a base on which to rest shoes and boots, and a connecting bar that can be used to hold hangers or drape scarves and jackets. The result is a balanced piece that is geometric and refined.

X marks the spot with House Industries’ X Ornament. An expressive font, the X has an ornate quality that dresses up the design. In addition to capturing the letter itself, the X also represents a kiss, making this a sweet token for a loved one.

Whether in oak or walnut, British designer Sean Dare's coat rack is a show-stopper. Named after the legendary Jackson 5, its hard-wearing wax oil finish ensures it will endure longer than fame.

The Cycloc Endo Hanging Bike Rack can store bicyles on the wall or floor: one piece locks the front tire in place with the other secures the back tire. Wide rubber contact points prevent scuffing and the locking mechanism accommodates a wide range of tires; the rack comes in a black, green, or white version.
