In the kitchen, a Dornbracht faucet joins a Silestone countertop. Paint in All White by Farrow & Ball—a shade used throughout the house—provides a crisp backdrop for a print from Thomas Demand’s series The Dailies, while a vintage Boris Lacroix lamp hangs ready to illuminate the scene.

Once past the main threshold, the house opens up to the outside, literally and figuratively. Three courtyards built around existing trees flow seamlessly into a series of rooms with glazed walls and sliding glass doors.

“Who better than the farmer and the farmer's family to know how most effectively and easily to find efficiency?” says architect Alan Barlis. Regional architecture inspired the barn-life structure of the house, an open volume that aides in efficient heating and cooling of the space.

A slatted walkway leads into the new library, which the Gimons have outfitted with a Topissimo rug by Nani Marquina, Grove Garden wallpaper from Osborne & Little’s Tara collection, and a pink Chroma Sassy sliding wall panel by 3form.

The kitchen includes backlit Bear Grass panels from 3form, a range by Capital, and a Thermador hood.

I love the feeling, I think of it having 360-degree bleacher seating around it, the pieces just brings the eye in so well, like they’re in an arena or piazza. There’s a beautiful architectural sensibility to them. But you don’t have to overthink it, it just works.”

Linda Taalman and Alan Koch, of Taalman Koch Architects, completed work on their glass iT House, a lovely, minimal home that tests the limits of living lightly on the land in the desert near Joshua Tree National Park. The bath and basin in the bathroom are by Duravit, and the orange wall is by Three Form.

Solidwool Chair Think of it as fibreglass from fleece, specifically those on the backs of sheep in the English countryside. Solidwool, developed by Devon designer Justin Floyd, turns the course material from one-and-a-half sheep into a smooth seat with untapped design potential.
