The living and dining room look out to the central courtyard, promoting indoor/outdoor living. Here, five doors slide into a pocket in the wall to create a nearly 23-foot-wide opening on one side looking into the garden. Another set on the opposite side enhances cross ventilation.

The Parentesi Floor Lamp from Flos was designed in 1970 by Achille Castiglioni and Pio Manzù. Now a design classic, the Parentesi blends the concept of a floor light and a ceiling lamp by including a ceiling mount and floor base. Although strong and stable, the Parentesi gives the illusion of lightness with its slender silhouette and cable that appears to float in space.

Kaamos, a Finnish collective comprised of designers Erik Bertell, Katriina Nuutinen and Matti Syrjälä, presented a collection at SaloneSatellite that was inspired by Finnish log cabin culture. They are presenting a number of pieces, including the Oma Floor Lamp by Katrina Nuutinen, which features a wrought-iron base and a blown-glass shade. "Oma" is Finnish for "own".

The Workstead Floor Lamp is a handsome take on a timeless silhouette. Its linen shade can be adjusted between 52–72" above the floor and rests on an adjustable swivel joint.

The Radius LED Floor Lamp was inspired by the early Danish torchier lamps and includes a radial shade and conical top. This allows light to radiate both upward and downward, creating a consistent light source that can be used in a variety of interiors, from living rooms and offices to bedrooms and grand entryways.

Grossman Grasshopper Floor Lamp, $875 at the Dwell Store Influenced by European Modernism, the Grasshopper Lamp balances minimalism, high function, and distinctive personality. Designed by Greta Grossman, the lamp was first produced in 1947 and balances a playful nature with a decidedly modern look.

What do you wish was easier to make and source in the USA? We’d like to see more upholstered pieces like sofas and loungers coming from the independent design community. Sofas are inherently larger ticket items and harder to store, so not a lot of smaller designers are producing them, particularly in the big cities like New York and San Francisco where studio space is expensive.
