The refrigerator is Sub-Zero, the cooktop and hood are Viking, and the oven is Miele.
Recessed ceiling lights, speakers, and the range hood ductwork are all concealed by the dropped ceiling. The stools are West Elm.
The couple loves to entertain, so the kitchen connects seamlessly to the dining and living areas. The countertops are HI-MACS, the sink is Elkay, and the faucet is Blanco.
Foz Design raised the dining table from Skram to counter height in order to make it feel more informal.
Formerly an office building with a dark basement, the structure—reminiscent of the Flatiron building in New York—was updated with a curved window on the street level, as well as a perforated white acrylic panel that allows light to enter the house.
In the open-plan space, a dropped ceiling in walnut helps define the kitchen area. Throughout the apartment, wide planks of hickory make up the flooring.
Flatiron Dining Table with Solid Brass Stretchers by Soren Rose for De La Espada
“The Flatiron was done for apartments in the building of the same name in New York. It’s a simple table. Brass happens to be a hot material right now, and it’s used in a necessary and a sparing way. It’s not just an adornment, it’s not spoiling the integrity of the table. Having that flourish underneath the table, it takes a moment to recognize it. I like that type of design, where what makes it special isn’t the first thing that you see.”
The Verve Sliding Top's matte lacquer cabinets are crowned with a statuario marble surface. These Minimal USA kitchens integrate appliances from Gaggenau, an industry leader for luxury equipment and the preferred choice of Michelin Star chefs.
Minimal USA's islands with Sliding Tops also contain a number of storage units within the sides of the kitchen island. For this Verve Sliding Top model—located in an apartment designed by ODA in New York's Flatiron neighborhood—the storage handles only register as subtle horizontal channels. The drawers, with their silent soft-closing mechanisms and minimalist feel, are elevated to the level of finely-crafted furniture.
Alda Ly Architecture has designed locations of the women-centered co-working space/lounge, The Wing, including its locations in DUMBO (Brooklyn), Flatiron (Manhattan), Soho (Manhattan), San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.
Beyond the terrace, the backs of the Flatiron Peaks reveal themselves. Revegetation of the 35-acre property began immediately following construction of the home—a 2,500-square-foot structure that blends into its woodsy surroundings.
