The Miller House and Garden features a custom-made sofa in the open-plan living area designed by Saarinen with textiles by Girard. The home was widely published and is in part credited for the popularity of conversation pits in the 1950s and 1960s.

The Mags sofa is a simple design composed of modular units that vary in length.

However, relying solely on concrete was not the best use of the budget, so Mulvena “balanced the concrete floors and highlights with a simple palette of affordable but industrial materials: black steel and plywood." The couch is by BoConcept.

A 200-year-old factory in Umbria is transformed into an inviting home by designer Paola Navone. De Poorter lowered the living room floor by about three feet to allow for larger windows. Vintage Sade sofas, purchased in Berlin, join an Arco lamp by Achille Castiglioni for Flos, a Noguchi coffee table, and a painting by family friend Hugo de Clercq.

The project came with an unexpected surprise: the designers didn't get a real overview of the site until after demolition, which inspired some last-minute changes.

With its inviting fireplace and piles of blankets, this cozy room is most alluring to design buffs that love a relaxing night in. You are driven and focused during the day, so the clean, hard, modern lines of this room appeal to your desire for organization; but when you come home, all you want is to curl up on the couch with a book or the TV remote to unwind from the stress of the day.

Based on the original sofa designed by Milo Baughman in 1959, the Darren Three-Seater Sofa and Lounge Chair are timeless furnishings that feature high seat backs and undeniably midcentury modern silhouettes. Featuring updated enhancements by Guy Hill—current Design Director for Thayer Coggin—the Darren Sofa and Lounge Chair exude comfort while maintaining crisp, modern lines. The Darren furnishings include fiber seats with double needle rounded front seams. Maintaining Milo Baughman’s original comfort detail, this sofa and chair include a lumbar support made of foam and fiber. The frames are made from kiln-dried American maple wood that is joined at the corners with double dowels for added strength and stability, and rests on solid walnut legs that are handcrafted in New York.

Tribeca Decor redefines convertible with this set that changes from armless couch to bed to chairs with the help of a swivel base. The base also acts as a built in coffee table in one of the eight options.

The 1,200-square-foot apartment suite comes with a cozy bohemian couch by Busnelli and an orange-hued hanging light and futuristic, blue Bianco table by Knibb Design. Every room at the Line hotel offers floor-to-ceiling windows that appear to frame views of the city, including the surrounding 1960s modernist skyscrapers, and in some cases the distant cityscape and Hollywood sign. Concrete is the main design element of the hotel, and it adds an authentically urban ambiance to each of the 388 rooms, which also showcase large-print photographs from LA-based artist Kevin Hanley and furnishings designed by Sean Knibb.

Another queen-sized option is Blu Dot’s hilariously titled One Night Stand. Guest not included.

Furnish says they are expanding to include furniture from brands like Restoration Hardware and Target.

The living room couch—a semi-circle design by Niels Bendtsen—is the centerpiece of the open-plan living space. The rolling kitchen ladder is by Bartels Doors, and the kitchen island, pantry, and cabinets were custom made by Hill Construction Company.

The living room resembles a Sticotti furniture showroom: The architect designed the couch, coffee tables, and stumplike stools. The fireplace is made of stacked stone from San Juan, a nearby province.

Armed with a DIY spirit and tight budget, designers Susanna and Jussi Vento sought to renovate their 660-square-foot Helsinki apartment into a cozy home packed with quirky charm. Their white interior palette, complemented by black accents, serves as the perfect starting point for Susanna to display her attention to crafty details. The hints of neon accentuate the clean glow of the white master bedroom furnished with a trestle desk built with Ikea legs, a rocking horse found on huuto.net, and a bed that doubles as a couch.

In the living room, Nunnerley added classic details, like custom crown moldings and baseboards, but used wide oak floorboards (rather than the traditional parquet) to give the space a slightly industrial, loft-like feeling. Richard Serra’s My Curves are Not Mad hangs above the monumental, low sofa she custom-designed to seat six comfortably. It inhabits its own niche, which she built so it wouldn’t interrupt her classic square.

The living room has a vintage Milo Baughman couch with cushions fashioned from Angora mohair from Architex. The coffee table is vintage, as is the side table base, given a custom stone top. A Seneca Table Lamp is by Danny Kaplan, while the artwork over the couch is by Patton Miller.

Aulenti bought her apartment and office at the same time in 1973 and reconfigured them to connect via a doorway on the top floor. Aulenti’s family is now considering using the space, which is still as she left it, as the headquarters of her official archives. The sofa is covered in a textile that Aulenti picked up on her travels, and her Festo table—designed for Zanotta—sports a custom felt top.

Compared with the vibrant backsplash in the kitchen, the gray couch by Maison Corbeil adds a “somber” quality to the living space, according to Blouin.

The top floor of the space is reserved for Colorola Studios, Patterson’s graphic design firm.

The site-sensitive exterior belies an interior festooned with a kaleidoscopic mix of colors and an array of tactile materials. The Peter rug, Malibu sofa, and ceramics are Adler’s own designs. The tables, pendant lights, and rocker are vintage. Adler and Doonan used scaffolding from the house’s construction to build the bookshelf.

Pearson and Trent furnished the house with lamps and chairs they culled from vintage stores in the area. They found the overstuffed leather lounger at Surfing Cowboys in Venice. The couple and the architects collaborated on the couch design and had it fabricated. Works by local artists fill their home, such as the white vessels by California-based, Japanese-born ceramicist Shio Kusaka.

The home embraces indoor-outdoor living with a large sliding door that serves as its only window. A living room couch by Hubba Hubba (made of mattresses and upholstered fabric) wraps around a TOV Furniture coffee table, anchored by a custom Moroccan rug found on Etsy. The ashtray is by Fundamental Berlin and the mushroom lamp is by Rodolfo Bonetto for Iguzzini.
