Christopher Roy’s layered, made-to-order “Why Not Bespoke” line combines a European dose of industrial design whimsy—he is British, after all—with traditional forms like the Windsor chair. Invoking a modern-Americana flair, see more here.

Primarily working in large-format imagery, photographer Christopher Churchill shot this Boston row house renovation. “One of my favorite parts of being in anyone’s home is to see the kind of space they create,” he says. “In this case, the residents had limited square footage but turned the space into something quite beautiful.”

Ideal outdoor getaway: “When I go somewhere, I want to feel that I have traveled and that the world is still a big place. I visited Svalbard, Norway and it is one of the most surreal places on earth.”

Parota wood continues in the spacious kitchen. Marisa and Christopher found the blue tile that runs throughout the home on a trip to León, Mexico. "It called out to us," says Christopher. Festooned with small stars, its tone matches the color of the ocean perfectly.

Born in upstate New York and based in Brooklyn, Christopher Testani has been featured in VICE, Bon Appetit, Travel & Leisure, and GQ, among other publications. For this issue, he shot a mind-bending farmhouse addition as well as a green-roofed prairie escape in Wisconsin. “The location and light were gorgeous,” he says of the latter. “As the sun started to set, the owners opened a nice bottle of wine and we enjoyed talking and watching the evening turn to dusk.”

Favorite midcentury design classic: “Curt Teich postcards.”

The rear of the Chistopher Polly-designed Elliott Ripper house shows the most impactful design moves—windows that allow light and air to enter the house. Breezway Altair louvers, Viridian Comfort Plus low-e glass, and Western Red Cedar–framed sliding glass doors on the ground floor and pivot stay windows on the second story allow residents to control how open or closed the house is. Modernism Week Show House: The Christopher Kennedy Compound celebrates the Palm Springs legacy of midcentury modern architecture and jet set American style.

"Last year's home was built in 1971," says Christopher Kennedy. "It was beautiful and glamorous, befitting the Palm Springs legacy of Hollywood celebrities and great design. Tones of gray, black, and white prevailed. This year's home was built in 1964. It is actually a little smaller. I asked the designers to take the design a little less seriously. We will see lots of white, creamy tones. I asked the designers to be playful and I set a color palette of blues and greens...my favorite hues in the desert. Think the green of the golf courses and succulent plants; the azure of the desert sky and the turquoise of the pool water."

Contributing designers include Bobby Berk, Linda Allen, Michael Berman, Trip Haenisch, and Dwell on Design speakers Mark Cutler and Vanessa De Vargas.

A VIP gala the evening of Friday, February 13, will help kick things off.

Artist Christopher Florentino created this studio to be a source of inspiration. "This space is for me as an artist—to create in, to keep me inspired," he says. "I don’t think there are many spaces that have a Keith Haring and Shiro Kuramata chair in the same space. I’m trying to show who I am as a designer and as an artist."
