Random Studio, an interactive digital design studio based in Amsterdam, and Petrovsky & Ramone created Our Kisses, a wish-bone shaped contraption that invites viewers to kiss one end while a camera hidden at the other end records them. The project aimed to bring strangers together onscreen with a simple human gesture that extends beyond race, age, and gender. The installation was originally created for the Oxymoron exhibition of Petrovsky & Ramone during Beijing Design Week 2013.

A little one points to a chicken in a stylized plywood-and-acrylic coop by Chicken Co-Op. Complete with egg-shaped venting cutouts, the co-op has passive heating and cooling systems and a solar-powered fan to keep hens happy and naturally productive.

A bi-fold metal door doubles as a shade canopy along the front of the home. The door easily raises and lowers, as needed, to provide additional protection and security for the interior.

While Edwardian timber homes are common in Sandringham, a beachside suburb in Melbourne, this one features a custom rear extension with two gable roofs that house the master bedroom, kitchen, and dining room. The open plan allows the spaces to flow into the yard, which features a new patio with a timber pergola for open-air dining.

The bi-level car barn, a spare, timber-clad structure with an A-frame roof, nods to traditional farmhouses, but is “sleek and contemporary in spirit,” says Geremia. Inspired by an old photo of a porcelain farmhouse sink, it features polished concrete floors.

The courtyard divides the "bi-nuclear" house into adult areas and children's areas, including a playroom.

Choosing not to make a big to-do of itself, this cottage blends in with its surroundings. Designer Bryan Boyer and lawyer Laura Lewis bought their townhouse in Lafayette Park in 2015, the same year the storied co-op joined the National Register of Historic Places. Their restoration included laying slate floor tiles the same size as the original linoleum squares, hanging modular Dieter Rams wall shelving, and adding appliances by Fisher & Paykel.

Bi-fold doors on either side of the wedge-shaped patio open the dining area and living room up to the outdoors.

The architects had to gain approval from the co-op board to break through to the roof—the loft is on the top floor—and add a terrace and master bedroom suite.
