Upstairs, the clutter-free bedrooms of Segal’s teenagers reflect their father’s less-is-more ethos.

The Father’s Eyes blanket by Pendleton Woolen Mills is a tribute to the men who watch over and guide us as we journey through this earth. A portion of the sale of each blanket will benefit the Men's Health Network, a nonprofit dedicated to improving men's lives through better health.

A hub of family life at the Depot House, the kitchen hosts meals, hanging around, or doing the odd bit of paperwork, as Organschi and his daughter Hanna demonstrate. The chairs around the small table are vintage 1940s French designs and were purchased from the New York furniture dealer Steven Sclaroff. The rug, by Gunta Stölze, is from Christopher Farr.

A pair of Molded Plywood lounge chairs by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller sit opposite a BoConcept coffee table and a sofa of Paul’s design. For his father’s book collection, Paul created a library around the double-height staircase.

Rustic, Scandinavian-style The Hut, in Ohio, is a true family affair; the sustainable cabin, covered in cedar shingles, was built by architect Greg Dutton and his brother and father. Inside, views are amplified through a 25-foot wall of floor-to-ceiling windows.

The father of architect Greg Dutton wished to build a cabin on the family farm, located within Appalachian Ohio and home to 400 heads of cattle. Dutton, of Pittsburgh and Columbus, Ohio-based Midland Architecture, presented this design as his father’s birthday present in 2012. Finished in 2014, the 900-square-foot cabin operates entirely off-the-grid.

In Seattle’s Greenwood neighborhood, architect Tiffany Bowie built an efficient house for her father, Dave, a retired engineer. A prototype system by Kirio monitors the home’s energy use. Shou sugi ban cladding in a herringbone pattern provides a striking backdrop.

The end of the pool now provides a much sleeker view. A studio also now tops the garage and provides additional living space which currently has a pool table handed down from Joey's father and is sure to be a hang out for the couple's boys as they grow up.

In the family room, Lucien gets an early start on his music career with his father’s help. The space, technically the third floor of the structure, overlooks the central living area below.

Architect Paul Elliott erected a new, cork- and timber-clad house on the adjoining plot to his family home, which his late architect father designed and built in Cape Town, South Africa. A wall of portraits pays tribute to Lolo’s ancestors. “All the men in my father’s family were called Joseph Honoré,” he says, “but my mother wanted to call me Laurent, after her brother.” The family tradition prevailed, but his mother insisted on calling him Lolo (pronounced Lu-lu).

The lake-level Beach Hut, built by Nathan and Adrianne’s father, further enhances the home’s indoor/outdoor living experience.

Mahogany detailing accents a smooth, stucco facade. Homeowner Ed Fine’s father, a doctor at University of California, San Francisco, bought the property in 1939 for a modest sum and built a home for his small family. He passed away while Ed was in his teens, and his wife Emily lived here alone until her 70s, when she decided to downsize and sell the home to her son.

Jens Risom’s 1941 lounge chair for Knoll sits alongside custom-made cabinets in the Wilson’s master bedroom. Ken’s father, an archeologist, collected the pottery and wall hanging in the American southwest.

The wood paneling in the dining area and the artwork by her father evoke the villa Andrea Hotere grew up in.

The 100-year-old Potrero House was renovated in phases for a resident who started the project as a bachelor and now is the father of three children.

The couple’s daughter, Kalyna, puts her own spin on her father’s engravings, which he calls a “concrete coloring book.” Dedicating this side of the building to the earth, he carved herds of caribou into the panels. The abstract marks at the base skirt the entire exterior and were added for a consistent design element.
