There are a number of reasons for this trend, not the least among them the realization that at some point in our lives, scaling back and downsizing is not only necessary, it’s downright appealing. However, we of a certain age are not the only ones looking to downsize and live within a smaller footprint. If you watch HGTV you probably already know about the number of shows featuring young people living in smaller dwellings.

While Walden Pond would not be classified as a tiny home, at 1,467 square feet the design definitely qualifies as a small barn home. The icing on the cake is this design has all the perks one expects from a larger post and beam house. There are 3 bedrooms – the master is on the first level – 2 full baths and a lofted ceiling in the living and dining area. There’s even a small reading loft overlooking the great room. This small barn home design is also appealing to those looking to build a second home. The footprint is a rectangle; known to be the most efficient in both cost effectiveness and heating/cooling expense.
