Abandoned since 2008, this two-bedroom abode was purchased earlier this year for only $1,000.

Once a diamond in the rough, this newly restored cottage now sparkles with charm from head to toe—or in this case, floor to ceiling. Located in Northwest Detroit, the 1949 residence was deserted for 11 years until a designer couple discovered the home through the Detroit Land Bank Authority and purchased it for $1,000.

Measuring 785 square feet, this once-neglected cottage was recently brought back to life by a local couple. The duo, who own a furniture and design shop in the nearby city of Ferndale, added charming and functional detailing to the tiny home, including a cozy sitting area on the front porch.

Of course, for a purchase price of $1,000, the couple knew the remodel of the 785-square-foot space would require much more than a little elbow grease. However they embraced the challenge and restored the home’s unique character while adding a chic, contemporary aesthetic.

The interior features a cheerful color palette and a mix of vintage and new furnishings. A large picture window infuses the space with natural light.

Featuring two bedrooms and one bathroom, the single-family home squeezes everything—including a one-car garage—onto its .1-acre city lot. The remodeled interior boasts colorful furnishings, complemented by various textures and patterns, all of which can be purchased as part of the sale. Scroll ahead to see inside the darling home, currently listed for $69,900.

The kitchen cabinets are painted yellow, contrasting with sleek stainless-steel appliances and a backsplash made of black subway tile. A cozy breakfast nook is slotted near the window.

Soothing color shades continue in the home's bathroom, where mint-green tiles mingle with hues of orange and blue. Gold fixtures add a contemporary touch to the space.

A peek inside one of the home’s two bedrooms. Here, crisp white walls create a blank canvas for patterned textiles and richly textured hardwood flooring.

19441 Biltmore St, Detroit, MI 48235 is currently listed for $69,900 by Ashley Mann of Hall & Hunter-Birmingham. The home can also be purchased with all the furnishings shown for an additional $3,000.
