The front and rear facades of Cabana Don Juan are made of glazed units framed in glass. The sides are made of fiber cement panels.
Instead of damaging the original exposed beams by scraping off the years of leftover paint, the beams now show the history of the home and are paired with new wood elements, such as the closet built-in, flooring, and vanity.
In a primary suite, a free-standing tub and new dormer window lend an air of European elegance. The kitchen's white oak cabinetry was given oval-shaped brass handles from CB2.
The existing cabinetry was given new white oak doors, while an additional arched shelving unit was added, as well as an extended end cupboard that extended the islaand.
The house’s construction employs an aluminium-and-plastic composite structure and double-glazed insulated sash. The large openings use wood sashes with higher thermal insulation to minimise energy loss.
The house, seen from above, is meant to tread lightly on the land, acting as an immersive yet quiet reatreat.
One continuous hallway goes across the house, from carport to great room to bedrooms. It allows the house to be expanded with an identically-designed twin, simply extending the hallway.
