In Johnson's daughter's room, he used birch plywood for the built-in wardrobe and desk. The chair is maple and steel and was designed and fabricated by Johnson.

To preserve the original windows, there’s a cut-out at the back of the cabinetry that was filled with herb pots. “You want to feel that this kitchen is an intervention, not an original part,” says Kaplan.
One of four sited in South Los Angeles, a starter home designed by Lehrer Architects and constructed for roughly $200,000 occupies an infill lot provided by the city.
Square Daltile tiles line almost every surface of the bathroom, which is flooded in natural light.
“Color-blocking all four walls make this zone feel like it has its own identity,” says Sundius. “It’s a bit of luxury in 420 square feet.”
Wood panelling brings a warmth to the concrete-and-white space.
Since obtaining tiles in the right color blue proved impossible, the tiles were painted using “Cobalt” from SIGMA Coatings by NCS Colour.
“It’s like being on a tropical island where you can take a shower under the trees, except you’re actually in Warsaw,” says Karol.
A domed copper light fixture by Atelier001 hangs above the dining table.
Concrete and travertine slabs were installed on the exterior, alongside an ipe deck with mahogany railings.

“When we first drove by the house, I saw the front and said, ‘No way,’” remembers Braitmayer of initially seeing the home, which was advertised as having a level entry. “But then we discovered the alley leading to the back of the house and the garage, which already had a ramp, as the previous owner’s wife also had a mobility limitation.” After the family settled in, Braitmayer began working in the garden, which she says “can never really be finished—there always has to be something left to do.”

The studio is a miniature living suite that flexes with use, whether the owners are entertaining or hosting guests and family. It has a full bathroom and kitchenette, the latter with white oak cabinetry and terrazzo counters, and a dining area with an EMEA bistro table and two About a Chair armchairs from Hay.
A skylight spans across most of the primary bathroom. Baker used two different tile shapes in the same color for a custom pattern, and paired it with terrazzo on the floor.
A full-length bench extends beneath a wall of windows in the dining area, with a wet bar tucked into the corner. Custom wallpaper was used on the back wall of the bar.
Banquette seating between the coffee bar and patio provides a sunny spot for the couple to take in garden views.
In many townhouses, the ground floor is referred to as the 'garden level,' while the main living area, or 'parlor level,' is typically found on the second floor. However, this house's hillside location allows the main parlor level to open directly to the backyard, combining the privacy of a traditional parlor level with the convenience of garden access, while the garden level functions as a walk-in basement.
A dramatic black-painted wall is a backdrop for the home office. The renovation has compelled the couple to move into the home full-time and rent their Seattle townhome.
In the living area, existing built-in seating is complemented by Mies van der Rohe lounge chairs and custom coffee tables by Michael James Moran.
