Today’s FEMA codes required a plinth to lift the house five-and-a-half feet above grade and a roof that can withstand hurricane wind loads, making it a challenge to re-create the lightness of midcentury design, Pirman says.

After an award-winning renovation by local practice Seibert Architects, the 1959 dwelling originally designed by architect Ralph Twitchell is up for grabs in Sarasota, Florida.

The Pavilion House's outer wall encircles a snaking courtyard that connects many of the home's interior spaces. After a step inside the lipstick red door, guests are greeted with an entrance into the home's exterior or to private patio on the left. Within that outer wall, both indoor and outdoor spaces appear to be one in the same.
