“Sula is a prefabricated house that was molded and structured in Quito for two months and assembled on Santa Cruz Island, Galápagos,” say the designers at Huaira. “It is composed of about 2,000 different custom-made wood, metal, aluminum, and glass pieces, which need over 17,000 screws and pins to put together the whole building. The assembly was carried out by four plant technicians and six employees, who traveled from the continent for multiple specialized activities for a total period of four weeks.”

The current homeowner recently completed an extensive interior renovation that updated finishes while retaining many of Clark's original details—including a dramatic 17-foot-tall room divider that separates the kitchen and dining area, as well as expansive glass-block windows.
The double-height living and dining area basks in natural light thanks to custom Hope’s steel windows, partially inset with 10-inch Corning glass blocks along one wall. Segal's renovation updated features such as the massive room divider, which was previously finished in a lighter, natural wood shade.
Off-shutter concrete is created by removing the shuttering—normally wooden planks used as a temporary structure to contain setting concrete. "Casting the perfect texture of old wooden planks on the concrete, while getting all the services placed correctly inside the shuttering, was an Herculean task," says Daffonchio.
