For the bathroom inside a renovated Hollywood bungalow, architect Noah Walker used a simple palette of gray and white tile, black countertops, and stainless steel fixtures. "I love minimal bathrooms with natural light, so less is more, and pay attention to the details," he advises.
At street level, the wooden garage door opens its toothed maw.

The master bedroom echoes the house’s black-and-white exterior and includes a custom-built storage unit that the architect designed for the space.

The foldings doors are by La Cantina, which expand to a redwood deck and the view across the valley.
The ceiling is prefinished rift white oak. The walls at the back of the space conceal the powder room and media room.
This Soho duplex features an indoor and outdoor chimney and multiple gardens including an arboreal backyard, a sunken terrace outside the living room and a green roof off the master bedroom.
The kitchen offers clear sight lines to the rest of the living space and, through the windows, out into the countryside. Its crisp white and grey cabinetry is topped with white Corian countertops.

The living room, sports a trio of Shell chairs by Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen & Son.
The clients asked for interior products in thirteen shades of white, including the twin Malibu sofas by American Leather. Interior designer Burns Century added deeply hued textures such as the charcoal suede on the fireplace column to keep the room feeling natural, not icy. The black Pool coffee tables are from Design Within Reach.
In the living room, several art installations add flair, including one special addition from Anne Lindberg, an artist known for understated line drawings. Strands of welding wire with tiny sculpted wood ends were drilled into the wall near the piano so they would stick out and move with breezes from the courtyard. Its cascading lines contrast directly with the curvilinear, soft pink Swarovski crystal chandelier by Tord Boontje.
The new, enlarged master bedroom is positioned where the old dining room once was. The clients wished to add an ensuite bathroom and walk-in closet. Throughout the design process, there was push and pull with reconciling the programmatic goals with a finite space. “Getting everything the clients needed into a pretty small was achieved through massaging small dimensions from one end of the house to the other,” says Jost.
The LC4 lounge is by Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand, and Pierre Jeanneret for Cassina. Operable porthole windows on the east facade offer ventilation.
Lustrous textures characterize the cantilevered master bedroom. The gleaming four-square-foot white porcelain tiles are softened by crushed-shell wallpaper and a cypress ceiling.
Light streams into the bedroom through walls of floor-to-ceiling glass. The windows are triple-glazed, creating a tight, eco-friendly seal.
The home's mostly neutral palette continues in the black-and-white bathroom. The vanity top is made of Carrara marble and the Kaldewei bath is from Reece.
The clients nixed a powder coating on the stair treads, fearing it would wear away, but approved it for custom, gray steel vanities in the master bathroom. Bathroom floors look like poured concrete but are actually thin, troweled-on microtopping.
Adjacent to the bedroom, the bathroom features microcement-coated walls, along with a custom sink and vanity. Dornbracht Tara sink faucets and dual rainfall showerheads finish the space.
In the bathroom, the architects mounted a Kohler sink on a sloped, custom-slate countertop. Since the stone doesn’t hold up well in water, the architect switched to black mosaic tile in the shower. The faucets are from Cabano’s Century series.
A spare material palette characterizes the interiors, with brick walls left exposed wherever possible to showcase the home's history.
The rear of the house features Victorian brick, a modern extension, and Velfac windows. Landscape designer Matthew Wright was inspired by the art of Henri Rousseau when choosing plants to set amid the garden’s Dorset pebbles.
