The fluidity of the first story plan caters to the client's love of gatherings. Instead of a lush garden, a minimal planters accentuate the sense of the outdoors while enabling more usable area during parties.

Designer Bryan Boyer and lawyer Laura Lewis bought their townhouse in Lafayette Park in 2015, the same year the storied co-op joined the National Register of Historic Places. Their restoration included laying slate floor tiles the same size as the original linoleum squares, hanging modular Dieter Rams wall shelving, and adding appliances by Fisher & Paykel.

The doors and windows are framed in plaster, which the owners formed, sanded, and finished themselves. The slightly uneven finish gives the home a handcrafted feel that contrasts with the sleekly finished timber work.
The semi-cantilevered roof uses an invisible truss system. Similarly to the volcanic rocks, while the roof appears dense and unwieldy, it is also light yet sturdy.

In a newly installed bathroom, slate tile encases the shower and a soaking tub takes in the view of a cluster of 100-year-old Norway Spruces.
Just off the entry courtyard, and adjacent to the garage, a newly defined mud room features white oak millwork.
A local blacksmith fabricated metal elements for the doors, shelves, and light fittings throughout the house.
A well-organized entryway leads to a living room that opens to gardens on two sides.
“The cabinetry ribbon also extends into the walk-in closet, which accommodates hanging racks, drawers, and open shelving, in addition to a compact washer and dryer,” says Jones. “In such a tiny little space, I think any amount of visual consistency creates a calming environment.”
A continuous wood boardwalk wraps around the Field House, linking the two distinct structures.

A classic VW bus in vintage colors shows both the scale and scope of The Barn and its surrounding scenery.
An oak beam spans the room, and a custom fireplace was created by Noor El-Mohandes.
Built of sustainable cross-laminated timber, a prefab cabin by the architecture firm MAPA offers a tranquil escape for São Paulo–based Maurício Uhle and Ralph Weigand. “We wanted to be in touch with nature, in a house made of wood and glass,” says Maurício. Adds Ralph, “We’d been searching for a solution that was well designed and cost-efficient and had a minimal impact on the environment.”
The kitchen opens to the living area, and a second kitchen is located behind the main kitchen to allow for catering for large groups.
The bedroom shifts to a more rustic dark-stained wood panel, surrounding the sleeping area and flowing onto the deck.
The wedge-shaped shower in the primary bathroom glimmers with sunlight from a full-height window. The tiles are from SomerTile, and the fixtures are from Grohe.
