The use of mirrors on the upper floor serves to visually amplify the small space. Storage space is extremely limited in the tiny home, there is a clothes rack, and a green box which doubles as a drawer.

When Rui first bought the house, part of the ceiling had fallen down, so it was impossible to even go upstairs. He knocked down the wall separating the kitchen and dining/living room and created one large living space that also incorporates the striking green-and-black staircase.

The firm opened up the mezzanine level so it can now access natural light from the double-height living room. A curtain can be pulled across when privacy is needed. The couch is from Blu Dot and the Ashland Coffee Table is by 57st Design.

Finishes for the rental came to a total of $7517, including costs for tile and installation. Augustin prefers to take tile to the ceiling, making for a grand impression. The white hexagonal floor and wall tile is by Antik, and measures 1 3/4” x 1 3/4” in size. The 12x12 tiles for the bathing area are by Demettra in the color Sculpture Gray.

To give her renters extra privacy, Kelli added a privacy fence around the backyard and installed soundproofing between both dwellings.

“I pulled in other vintage pieces to give the space some soul,” Kelli says. A salvaged door was added to the bathroom and brass drawer pulls from ebay were added to the vanity.

An organic material palette of linen, cotton and wood helps echo the serene vibe while also adding a layer of cozy texture to the all-white space. She outfitted the home in linen textiles by the Dutch company bymölle, along with vintage African mudcloths from African Art Box and Earthly Goods Home, two etsy sellers.
