Opened in 2015, Keemala, which is located in Kamala Village in Phuket, Thailand, offers four private accommodation options – Clay Cottages, Tent Villas, Tree Houses and Bird’s Nest Villas. All villas come with pools with views of the jungle canopy.

Structurally, the 20-room hotel echoes traditional hiking hotels of the region but offers a modern interpretation—a stripped-down translation punctuated by an asymmetrical saddle roof and diagonally protruding bay windows that respond to climatic conditions.
I-Kanda Architects worked closely with Fire Tower Engineered Timber and Bensonwood to engineer and pre-package all framing offsite. In order to reduce the structure’s footprint, the team cleared a minimal amount of trees and opted to enhance surrounding views by installing a custom, 24-foot-wide sliding glass wall designed by Architectural Openings.

The aluminium-framed windows throughout are by Australian company Capral. “We wanted as much glass as possible to enjoy the almost 360-degree views,” says resident Sarah Younger.
