Whale coaster set designed by Deam + Dine for the Modern by Dwell Magazine collection for Target

At the Mill Valley home designed by architect Chris Deam for residents Jack and Ellen Corrigan, the view begins from the top. Sun studies of the steeply sloped site informed the choice for a standing-seam metal, diagonal ridge roof, which Chris refers to as the home’s “fifth facade”.

Modern x Dwell: My simple line and halftone pattern illustration is a reflection of the contemporary esthetics created for the Modern x Dwell collection. Self initiated project. This collaboration between Dwell and Target has produced a thoughtful collection of well designed modern pieces. Most pieces represented in my illustration are the outdoor patio collection – pieces include (from left to right) are: Terracotta 6”, 9” and 10” Planters / Outdoor Lounge Chair / Umbrella Navy/White / Outdoor Side Table + Lantern Large Copper / Outdoor Sofa + Geo Pillow / Round Metal Shelf Mirror / Hexagons Concrete Planter.

The room also contains a sofa by Flexform, cushions from textile firm Chevalier Masson, a Jens Fager candelabra, and a painting by Roger Raveel.

The outdoor seating collection was a favorite for designers Chris Deam and Nick Dine, who kept the profiles slim to avoid blocking views. Here, the Posture Chair and Ottoman Set relies on the geometry of the form—rather than solely padding—to provide comfort and support.
