"Originally, I wanted to make the whole house powered with wood pellets," he says. "But I decided against shoveling pellets in the snow. I'll get weird in a little bit less of a cold climate."
Maison Amtrak, Peter and Saly Cohen's home, is the latest of five spine and module houses he's designed. Clipping rooms, decks and the garage onto a central spine makes Cohen's designs high adaptable to different sites.
"We did our best to tuck the buildings into the site—the goal was to get up high on a perch. It was a matter of setting that elevation and working back down with the topography," says architectural designer Riley Pratt.

The historic home sits on the edge of Oxfordshire's trendy village of Langford, conveniently located less than a two-hour drive to London. Architecturally defined by its lateral stone structure, the home is crowned by a Welsh slate tile roof.
Hand-crafted character oak joinery lines two of the walls in the primary bedroom. Bi-folding doors connect to the large en suite bathroom, where a free-standing tub awaits.
