The kitchen features custom-lacquered cabinets with white oak handles and, in lieu of upper cabinets, a wall niche to display dishes.
A skylight brightens one of the new bathrooms.
The bathrooms feature simple white tiles with concrete floors, while pocket doors throughout the home are painted in primary colors to create a subtle pop of bright color.
In the new bathroom, Heath Ceramics tiles were used in the shower alongside cement tile flooring from Clé Tile.
Even in the bathrooms, there are moments of bright color: a yellow faucet, a pink and yellow vanity, a yellow towel heater. The mosaic tile on the floor is of a different color than that of the walls, but together they create a pleasing backdrop for the bolder tones in the small room.
A bright green, patterned wallpaper envelops the bathroom on the lower level.
Bathrooms were kept simple, with tile from the same line: Urban Atelier from Aleluia Cerâmicas, which has been in business for over 100 years.
The upstairs ensuite bathroom is covered in orange tiles. All the tiles used in the bathrooms, kitchen, and service area are by Classic Ceramics.
A small bathroom is tucked away near the mudroom, hidden behind a pocket door.
The cabin's single bathroom is located adjacent to the master bedroom and is covered in ocher-colored tile. A fenced-in outdoor bathing area is accessible via a sliding glass door.
Dal Tile “Keystones” in Arctic White and Emerald cover the guest bathroom.
A cutaway in the structure's cubic shape forms a front porch, where a graphic yellow door welcomes visitors. The roof slopes downwards, holding more intimate spaces at its lower end.
“I wanted to plant a green roof for its thermal mass, but I wanted it to be as natural as possible,” Liang says.
Six-inch-square blue tiles cover the walls and floor of the girls’ upstairs bathroom. The towels and rug are also by H&M Home.
Stainless steel appliances, including the Sub-Zero refrigerator, Fisher & Paykel dishwasher, and Viking oven and cooktop, are seamlessly integrated with the natural maple paneling that Erik used here and throughout the house. The marble used for the countertops is Bianco Carrara. “It’s just a very clean palette,” he explains.
Each bedroom has two access doors, which close completely flush for a clean appearance.
The expansive decks and patios enable indoor/outdoor living and easy entertaining.
The street-facing facade leans into the landscape with a three-foot-deep cantilever and toward a pathway of hexagonal concrete pavers.

The couple wanted a home where they could relax, cook meals, listen to music together, and leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind.
The homeowners wanted a space to accommodate their interests: gardening, looking after their ducks, or relaxing in the shade provided by the canopy of trees on the property.
Bath time is never dull for the couple’s two young children, thanks to bright orange Interni tiles by Domus.
This writer’s studio features ample lighting and carefully chosen windows and openings—essential elements of an uplifting she shed or other outbuildings.
The upper section of the façade is clad in timber, and features large steel-framed windows that extend slightly beyond the siding.
The mitered glass window on the southwest corner of the new building is a nod to the entryway on the southwest corner of the existing building.
“I find that what's so appealing about old Victorian trim detail is how it casts shadows, and so we played with that idea in the detailing of the new house, creating rhythm with the shadow lines of the lap siding and the window extrusions,” notes Ryan.
