The Cabin is furnished with designs by Delo Design, including TRU chairs in cream. The bed is nestled beneath a large window that frames the landscape, and a small kitchenette sits opposite the dining zone.
Traverse Design + Build polished the rusty metal exterior and repaired the hull’s trim.
Art rails keep decor neatly arranged, and allows the family to switch out artwork easily.

Madison points out that the pod concept would make it easy to add an extension if necessary. “We see it as a house that can grow with us—and that we can pay for as we go along.”
The south-facing, open-plan living is flooded with a gentle mid-afternoon light, reinforcing the warmth of the bright, simple interior.

“The rest of the house is flooded with light. It's bright and energizing,” says Audrey. “But when we're winding down from a long day at work, we just like to go into the family room and hang out on the couch. It’s our little sanctuary.” The Outline sofa by Muuto was placed with a vintage marble coffee table and rug from June + Blue. The floor lamp is Flos.
The client’s own Herman Miller chairs were placed with a Knoll tulip table and Hay pendant.
The fireplace was cleaned and painted. An original wall of wood paneling was preserved and extended through the home. “We wanted one full wall of the paneling to connect front of the house to the back,” say the designers. In the dining room, the Log table by Hem is surrounded by Cover chairs by Muuto. The chandelier is Brendan Ravenhill.
Custom white oak cabinets compose the kitchen. They’re topped with Calacatta Bella Honed Marble. Fiber Stools by Muuto are tucked under the counter.
Decorotation added a partial wall that “mimics an original Eichler feature,” says the firm, in order to create separation between the entry and kitchen, as well as provide the couple with a landing zone for keys and phones.

Now, a loft overlooks the combined living areas. Carie patched and refinished the original wood floors to anchor the predominantly white interior.

New streamlined cabinets are painted in Benjamin Moore, ‘Sea Haze,’ with a super functional Caesarstone counter in ‘Organic White.’ For the backsplash, honed Calacatta Bettogli Classic marble was used to spotlight its dramatic veining. “Kirsti loves stone, so that was where we got to play,” says Mattingly.

The c-shaped kitchen is built from Ikea carcasses which were strengthen by the couple’s joiner to withstand the weight of the polished concrete worktops and clad in Douglas Fir plywood.
Sinking the floor level meant the couple couldn’t have a raised ventilated floor, they had to have a ground bearing slab made up of a layer of concrete slab, insulation and then concrete screed above. Rather than add another layer of flooring on top, Christian and Faye decided to stick with the polished concrete floor, which reduced extra labour and material costs.
