  • Axis Mundi
    @axismundi
    Axis Mundi is a tight knit design firm founded by John Beckmann. The firms architectural, interior and furniture designs have been featured in numerous international publications, such as The New York Times, Metropolitan Home, and Wallpaper, among others. The work of Axis Mundi reflects a passionate commitment to timeless design solutions. The firm uses the most advanced visualization software, enabling clients to see exactly what the project will look like prior to it being built. John Beckmann is direct when it comes to discussing his process of arriving at thoughtful solutions to complex problems. "I'm not interested in chasing novel forms for their own sake, I'm more concerned with how the work will be perceived in the future, my sense of history is that most work inevitably betrays the time that it was built, regardless of its authors’ intentions, and in fact the work that seems the most novel and of the moment, is just that. I think that our work is very concise, pragmatic and somewhat utopian, as I truly believe that intelligent design should be affordable, and not something possessed only by a few. I guess that makes us very democratic." In 1996, John Beckmann received a grant from the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts for the book The Virtual Dimension: Architecture, Representation and Crash Culture, Princeton Architectural Press, 1998. He is a graduate of Parsons School of Design.
