Peter Williams studied art at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and the Maryland Institute College of Art. He spent some seventeen years living in Detroit and teaching at Wayne State University. He’s the recipient of a number of esteemed grants and awards, including a Ford fellowship and a McKnight Foundation fellowship, as well as a grant from the Joan Mitchell Foundation. Illustrious institutions like the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York have all collected his work. Critics and reporters have analyzed his work for publications like Art in America, Tema Celeste, ARTnews, the New Art Examiner, and the Detroit Free Press. His work was in the 2002 Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Williams lives in Delaware.
