The Salvatori marble tiles in the bathroom were added at the last minute, once everyone was confident that they would not put the project over budget.

“The walnut unit between the kitchen and dining room ties into the fumed oak floor,” Dubbeldam says. “The rest of the materials in the house—glass, marble, stone—were selected to offset the wood.”

WAVE CANDLESTICK The Wave Candlestick combines traditional craft production with a contemporary design sensibility. Hand-turned by artisans in Jaipur, India and designed by Michael Dreeben for AKMD, the Wave Candlestick mimics the undulating curves of sine waves. Each candlestick is made from repurposed, sustainably—harvested Mango wood -a native tree to India— and is burned and oil finished.

BLOSSOM CANDLESTICKS Part of the Blossom series, the Lily Candlestick is the baby in this family of blooms, standing at 24.5 cm. This joyous and organic form is crafted from hand turned beech wood— a production process inspired by the mid-century candlesticks which were made from the scraps of wooden furniture. Created by Danish designer Anders Nørgaard, the Lily Candlestick looks lovely as a single bud, but best when paired with others of the Blossom series to form a meadow in full bloom. Made in Sweden.

The hand turning process is inspired by the midcentury candlestick making process of creating candlesticks from the scraps of wooden furniture.

Danish designer Simon Legald was inspired by the silhouette created in a tree trunk as lumberjacks slowly chop away toward its center when he conceived of this series of Lumberjack Candle Holders. The result is a series of candle holders that blend an organic feel and a refined, sculptural quality, making them an ideal choice for a rustic kitchen or elegant dining room.

The Algedi Marble Side Table from Iacoli & McAllister is a versatile furnishing that carefully balances materials to create a striking accent. Comprised of a Carrara Marble tabletop that is fixed atop a copper-plated steel base, the Algedi can be used in a variety of interior spaces, from living rooms and offices to bedrooms and guest rooms.

A monolithic take on the modern candlestick, we love Lee Broom's Fulcrum design, whether in the new marble version (shown), or the original optic crystal iteration shown in Dwell's Buyer's Sourcebook special issue.

Prioritize either storage or easy cleaning. While extra storage is always nice, it is important to note freestanding vanities are also known for being harder to clean, since there are more corners and nooks where dust can hang out around them.

Davor (with his wife, Abbe, and son, August) designed the main living and dining pavilion as a double-height space to increase its perceived volume, and added high cubbies for extra storage.

The bathrooms are lined in luxurious Estremoz marble.

In the master bathroom, Chris clad the tub and walls in Carrara marble. An AJ Wall sconce by Arne Jacobsen for Louis Poulsen sheds some light on bathtub reading.

In the kitchen, the continuous kitchen worktop and table are made of marble from Caledonia Marble. The pink Tamatik dining chairs are by Connie Chisholm and are from the Canadian design shop Made. The Blinding Love pendant lights are by Periphere, which has shops in Montreal and Toronto. The iron rails were inspired both by screens the couple had seen on their travels in the Middle East and by the ornate wrought ironwork favored by their Portuguese neighbors. Barzel Ironworks fabricated the banister to Sawatzky’s design by slicing up iron pipe, welding it, and painting it.

The kitchen features a concrete island topped with marble. Deja-Vu stools by Naoto Fukasawa surround the island. A print by Guy Gormley, as well as a painting bought during holiday in St. Tropez, hang on the walls.

The tiny budget still allowed room for some strategic splurges, such as the vivid green Verde Ming marble in the house’s only bathroom

Of the seven steps in Michael Pozner’s not-quite-500-square-foot aerie in Greenwich Village, five contain drawers. His small set of table and chairs is from CB2.

The kitchen is beautifully textured and veined thanks to white Carrara marble countertops installed by New Marble Company and reclaimed cypress cabinets built by Wayne Berger.
