BLOSSOM CANDLESTICKS Part of the Blossom series, the Lily Candlestick is the baby in this family of blooms, standing at 24.5 cm. This joyous and organic form is crafted from hand turned beech wood— a production process inspired by the mid-century candlesticks which were made from the scraps of wooden furniture. Created by Danish designer Anders Nørgaard, the Lily Candlestick looks lovely as a single bud, but best when paired with others of the Blossom series to form a meadow in full bloom. Made in Sweden.

Swanson is partial to the California olive blossom honey she sells. "We age it until it crystallizes and sets into a texture that makes me think of quince paste," she says. "The bees feed on the nectar of Manzanillo and Mission olive trees along with blossoming lupine, gilia, poppy, and helianthella plants which dot the grove. The result is a dense honey with a pronounced warm sweetness reminiscent of dried apricots and candy corn. Beneath the sweetness are hints of cedar, almonds, and olive-y richness."

BRONZE HANDLE BUTTER DISH $110 We love the simple, beautiful work of Portland based ceramicist Lisa Jones of Pigeon Toe. This hearty porcelain butter dish is enhanced by a square bronze handle giving it a modern but timeless elegance.

"99 percent of the miniatures featured in the book were made painstakingly with hand tools: Xacto knives, sandpaper, felt, a needle and thread, strips of basswood, and mahogany—things you can find at a great art supply store," Chun says. "I only recently got a Dremel rotary tool to help with sanding the curves of a Saarinen dining table. But overall, the simple, clean lines—often pure geometry—found in mid-century and Danish modern sensibilities helps with creating pieces at this scale."

Pete Peanut and the Trouble with Birthdays is a book that's seeking funding via Kickstarter. What caught our eye were the meticulously crafted sets in the video, which features midcentury design in miniature. The authors Mimi O. Chun and Sean Hewens were inspired by a trip to Palm Springs Modernism Week. "All of the homes were perfectly preserved, the way you might imagine them in the 60s," Chun says. "Despite all of the visitors in town for the event, there was a stillness to Palm Springs that seemed like the perfect backdrop for Pete Peanut, who is the quiet type of peanut—a contemplative sort who understands that not all change is good, regardless of whether or not it involves birthday cake."

"Just as the narrative can be read on multiple levels, we wanted the visual appeal to span readers of all ages," Chun says. "At face-value, this is a story that will appeal with children; on an allegorical level, the human-sized themes—e.g. our preoccupation with aging, the unending celebration of self, introverts being easily misunderstood, and the rise of the underdog—will resonate with adults. Visually, there are brightly colored photographs for kids, but we hope the miniature replicas of design icons will charm all ages."

"Pete has no idea that he lives amongst iconic pieces of design or seminal artworks and they don't figure into the narrative at all," Chun says. "In fact, within the story itself, it's somewhat ambiguous what era Pete actually lives in, which made a midcentury environment an ideal backdrop as these pieces that were designed half a century ago—or more—continue to be revered as examples of good design today."

Liberty Bakery is a neighborhood cafe founded by artists and bakes up an array of pastries, from cinnamon rolls to croissants and more.

"Girard and Harper go together like peanut butter and jelly."

The Peanut Planter is a playful nod to a peanut shell, but it still maintains an artful, modern look. The fiberglass planter is supported by an elegant wood stand, crafted from rich walnut. The planter is an excellent way to display a row of succulents, ferns, or small flowered arrangements.

Zachary designed a new cabinet in walnut to anchor the room. The wood tones are a warm counterpoint to the butter-yellow sofa. The coffee table belonged to the owners.

For the Butterfly cabin, which is part of the Post Ranch Inn, Muennig chose materials that age gracefully when exposed to the elements. He regularly uses Cor-Ten steel, a group of steel alloys that form a stable rust-like appearance when battered by wind and rain.

Today’s homemade and hand-packed flavors included Tahitian Vanilla Bean, Cookies & Sweet Cream, Peanut Butter and Milk Chocolate Swirl, Green Apple Cider Sorbet and Fresh Peppermint Chip.

At the back of the room, the popular Alcove Cabin, designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, stands out in red. One of Vitra’s newer products, Workbay, also designed by the Bouroullec brothers, serves as a coffee and snack bar. It also creates a corridor behind the wall, which displays how the design can easily separate open-floor spaces, creatively. In the foreground, the credenza-style Level 34 piece, designed by Werner Aisslinger, can be used as a decorative storage unit or configured with different sized pieces to build a workstation.

The Swiss furniture company removed a wall partition that previously separated its showroom from a storage and office space. The new, open area offers visitors a grand, yet welcoming vibe.

The showroom's original main entrance opened at the front of the building to direct, street access, but traffic is now being redirected through the doors of a design co-op space that connects Vitra, Carl Hansen & Son, and a few other spaces that are awaiting new design tenants.

Cake stands sourced from local thrift shops display an array of cookies and sandwiches. On any given day you might find dark chocolate sea salt cookies, flourless peanut butter cookies, and hand-rolled vegan truffles.

Peanut is a 31-foot-long 1976 Airstream Land Yacht. Sitka Concept successfully restored the exterior to a mirror-like shine.

The luminous new bathroom repurposes the original medicine cabinet and light fixture, while statement cement floor tile from Original Mission Tile in Hex Bakery adds a graphic punch. The ceramic subway wall tile is Florida Tile ‘Arctic Matte’, and the wall-mounted faucet is a Tiburon Series Lavatory Faucet from California Faucets in matte black.
