Architect Frederic Latherrade and his firm Zebra3 are building a fantastical system of waystations around the Bordeaux countryside to encourage hiking and exploration, such as "Le nuage."

Set to be completed in 2016 with 14 total stations, the system plays off the concept of Bruit du Frigo, according to Latherrade, small dwelling within the city limits to encourage short escapes. Each of these stations can be reserved for a short break, but beyond providing shelter, they lack any additional amenities

The Bluth family didn't see this coming: "Le Hamac" concieved by Bruit du Frigo is a kind of huge, half-covered outdoor "banana."

Villa le Lac by Le Corbusier in Coreaux, Switzerland "I was in Corseaux, in Vevey, to see a very small house: Le Corbusier's Petite Maison Coseaux (also called Villa le Lac). The house was built for his mother back in 1924. I had looked at the website, which stated it would be open for visitors, but when I arrived it was closed for construction. Just before getting into the car and returning to the hotel, I changed my mind and jumped the garden wall. Moments later I found myself all alone in this architectural curiosity." "The house is 64 square meters; it's a simple rectangular concrete structure with a garden terrace, open floor plan, and large windows. But even though it's small, Le Corbusier managed to fit a living room, a bedroom, powder room, small salon that could be converted to a bedroom for guests, vestibule, bathroom, kitchen, and closet into this house. It's the first example of modern architecture by Le Corbusier in Switzerland. The stroke of genius was a wall that he built in front of the lake obstructing the view. He designed a window in the wall, with a table and two benches inside the garden, so his mother could sit and watch the lake while being protected from the sun and wind. Sitting in front of the same window, I imagined what it might have been like, being here almost 90 years ago the day they finished construction. Did mother and son have a cup of the here? Feeling slightly guilty that I was trespassing—but still with a grin on my face—I sat there for a couple of hours in my own architecture history lesson surrounded by the Rhone valley and the Alps in Corseaux and the gorgeous view of the lake. Le Corbusier's 1923 Villa Le Lac

“Le nuage,” a cloud-shaped structure built from plywood, plexiglas, glass fiber and reinforced plastic, offers a peaceful way to leave the everyday behind.

A different kind of log cabin, "Le tronc creux" is an abstract wood cylinder concieved by Bruit du frigo Thidet and built by Zebra3.

LES PERLES CANDLE HOLDERS For Les Perles Candle Holders, FX Balléry drew inspiration from classic wooden beads produced in the Jura Mountains. Its steel base comes with eight interchangeable wooden pieces that can be put together to create unique and changeable candlestick designs.

Over 60 years ago, Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru tapped the Swiss architect Le Corbusier to design the Indian city of Chandigarh, a new modern capital for the state of Punjab. The resulting Palace of Assembly is one of the architect’s great brutalist buildings.

“I read a story about a student in a small one-bedroom apartment who because she could only fit her big bed and her desk in the apartment, was too ashamed to invite her friends or her parents over,” remembers Van Bo about his inspiration for this crafty ensemble of furniture. “There was nowhere to cook, nowhere to sit, not even space for standard chairs to fit. It made me think ‘Where do we find the instruction manual for how to use a small space?’ We buy a new computer or a new vacuum cleaner and we are given instructions. But nobody teaches us how to use space”. So he designed plans for a small one-bedroom apartment that included a room-dividing piece (the Siwo Couch) that functions as an all-in-one couch, pull-out king size bed and bench that seats six to nine people, a miraculously problem-solving invention, along with custom-sized smaller chairs that double as tables. “Design is a social issue,” says Van Bo, “it facilitates or negates social interaction depending on its cleverness, use and beauty. Wohnung makes socializing possible and enjoyable in a small space, on a small budget”.

Le Corbusier designed the immense Secrétariat building’s facade (138 feet tall and 833 feet long) to be cooled by a system of brise-soleils.

Using public art as a platfrom for preservation is what Marc Armengaud, a founding member and director of the AWP office for territorial reconfiguration, adds to the pool of ideas. For example, Daniel Buren created Les Anneaux to call attention to sprawl and give an identity to an estuary connecting two cities along the La Loire estuary in France.

Snøhetta's design for the Groupe Le Monde headquarters building in Paris calls for a facade of pixelated glass "with varying degrees of transparency, translucency, and opacity." It is designed to appear somewhat homogeneous from a distance, but more dynamic and complex up close.

The building is expected to be an anchor of Paris Rive Gauche, a new neighborhood that is being redeveloped on the left bank of the Seine River near the Gare d’Austerlitz, in the city’s 13th arrondissement.

The vaulted ceilings on the underside of the "bridge" connecting the building's two volumes will be embedded with clusters of LED lights that can either provide simple illumination or be programmed to represent the flow of information in the digital age.

The swimming pool was reshaped and refinished to blur the transition between deck and rocky outcrop. Beyond the pool is the villa’s private beach, framed by lush vegetation.
