Josef Albers's nesting tables represent one of his earliest, most functional exercises in color theory. Designed in the late 1920s while Albers was at the Bauhaus, the oak-and-glass tables are still available today.

A modern reproduction of a 1926 set of tables, these nesting tables show Josef Albers’s mastery of color. The set was originally built for the Moellenhoff family in Berlin, Germany. Although their home was destroyed in the war, this piece, along with many others, was saved and brought to the United States prior to the outbreak of World War II.

"The school serves as the workshop and one day they will merge into one another. This is the reason why we do not have teachers and students but rather masters, journeymen and apprentices," said Gropius of the Bauhaus. Josef Albers' 1923 painted-glass work Park demonstrates the school's interest in experimentation and craftsmanship, or, as the book puts it, #learningbydoing.

Each patterned sheet is based on the framework used by architects to create plans. The inverted trusses subtly establish distinct spaces in the great room, with the bottom edges lending an intimate feel to the living area.
