BRONZE HANDLE BUTTER DISH $110 We love the simple, beautiful work of Portland based ceramicist Lisa Jones of Pigeon Toe. This hearty porcelain butter dish is enhanced by a square bronze handle giving it a modern but timeless elegance.

"When Pyrex was launched in 1915 as clear glass ovenware, American consumers needed to be persuaded that baking in glass was not only feasible, but provided benefits that baking in metal, iron, and earthenware did not have," Brumagen says. "To aid them in their campaign, Corning Glass Works executives turned to leading home economists to first test the new material in the kitchen and then to promote it to Americans through advertising, cooking columns in magazines, and demonstrations." "We find ourselves in the marginal group who still love a simple slice of toast and decided to design something to emphasize this as well as solve a problem that hasn't been addressed for a good 20 to 30 years," Pedersen says of this toast rack. "The size and shape of bread has changed, and so we found that our old inherited toast racks didn't work anymore! Our solution is a simple combination of a wooden breadboard base with a steel or brass rack, which clips in nicely and holds toast [slices] of varying thickness."

The Loop bike rack is a concept and prototype developed by the Federal, an Ottawa-based design consultancy founded by the industrial designers Ian Murchison and Rohan Thakar. (The name is a nod to their home base in Canada’s capital city.)
