Brit and Daniel Epperson accented the cabin’s bright white interior with dynamic black focal points and vignettes, like a towering tile fireplace facade and a cool Valchromat-and-steel kitchen.

The spruce timber structures are clad in South African pine and fitted with Brits Isotherm recycled plastic insulation and Coverland Undertile membrane vapour barrier.

The kitchen features hacked IKEA cabinets—Brit and Daniel built custom fronts and side panels out of Valchromat, a recycled engineered wood. The cabinets are topped with black steel, which extends up the wall as backsplash. “We wanted to find an inexpensive way of doing a really terrific kitchen,” says Daniel. “The metal, which is a cold-rolled sheet of blackened steel, is a unique material that will develop a patina over time, but will also be super durable—and again, very cost effective.”

The arched motif was repeated in the new cabinet pulls, designed by Brit and fabricated by Derek out of white oak ($179). The counters are a terrazzo lookalike, the Blanco Terrazzo Solid Surfacing countertops from Formica, that the couple templated and installed themselves ($2,110). "I love the look of the solid surface countertops because I really wanted terrazzo, but it was just not in the budget to go that route," says Brit.

Brit painted the dark grout lines of the tile backsplash to soften the overall look. The couple also encased the range hood with closet dowels, with the materials for that project totaling $124.

Yinka teamed up with Universal Music to design a limited-edition print titled Love In a Line for the 2019 BRIT Awards. “The design is a celebration of multiculturalism and the beauty in our differences,” says Yinka. The print was gifted to all of Universal’s BRIT Awards nominees, including Drake, Sam Smith, and Ariana Grande, and also featured on the invitation for the official after-party.

When Rob and Mary Lubera started pulling threads to uncover the origins of their new home—the lone midcentury house amid rows of Tudor Revivals in suburban Detroit—not even architecture scholars could have anticipated what they would find. Theirs is the last surviving residence by Alexander Girard (1907–1993), a modernist visionary who made his name in textiles but tried his hand at virtually everything, architecture included. The shoji-like laminate screens, seen in the entryway, are characteristic of his Japanese-influenced work.

The subdued 85-room Belgraves opened in February of 2012 in London’s Belgravia neighborhood, a stone’s throw from Sloane Square. Quasi-industrial brick walls with geometric furniture and lend the property a neo-Brooklyn texture, while plush velvet upholstery and contemporary pieces from Brit artists Miranda Donovon and Mat Collishaw amp up the New Britania. Rooms from $350.
